keydance doesn't show error codes on non-SKIM car

As the title says, my 99 with a 2.7 won't show any error codes when I do the key dance. The odometer just goes blank for a second then comes up with the mileage. This isn't a SKIM based computer (and I have a couple that all do the same thing).

Also, its not showing a check engine light when I first turn the key on (which it seems like it used to do if I remember right).

Could these be a communication problem between the PCM and the BCM (as in if the BCM handles the odometer/code display and has to get the codes from the former before it can display them and/or energize the check engine light)?

if you're talking about the C1 connector harness, that's not the one that the PCM -> BCM PCI communication goes over.

Here's an interesting question tho: will a SBEC III show codes with the C1 completely disconnected?

As I don't have a test car to try this on hopefully someone does who can tell me.
