Bulb Question ATC Climate Control

Hey all, I just finished repairing my ATC control so the display will work. Anyway, I noticed that I have one of the backlighting bulbs burned out that illuminate the buttons on the ATC control, so I figured that now would be a good time to replace the bulb since everything is apart.

Went to AutoZone and O'Reilly's and neither have the bulb, which according to the manual is a 330. Is that the right bulb? It is mounted in a small, gray, flanged base.

Is the Stealership the only place to get this bulb? How much $?

Here's a picture of the bulb.

Thanks

junkyard x2. remove a unit from an old car and get 4 bulbs for the price of 1. or you could do the LED conversion. be sure to use green if you go the LED route. they make LED's already in the base for you so you dont have to go through the pain in the butt of removing the old and mounting a new.

Unfortunately, no, its not a junkyard part, at least in my area its not. Before I repaired my ATC display myself, over the period of two days, I went to all of the junkyards in my area looking for a replacement ATC display. There were plenty of MTC displays in the Treps and Concords I came across, but all of the cars with ATC displays that I found already had them removed. None to be had anywhere and I went to at least 12 junkyards.

So, l this morning I called the Stealership. There are 2 in my area. The first one I called, Rouen in Woodville, OH, told me they didn't have any in stock and would have to order one. He told me it was $10.22! I don't know about any of you, but there ain't know way I'm paying $10.22 for a miniature lightbulb just to light up a couple buttons. I'd duct tape a flashlight to the headrest of the seat first and aim it at the radio! So, then I called the other Stealership, Charlie's Dodge in Maumee, OH. They happened to have one in stock and its $5.36. Still, way too much in my opinion, but way better. It's still going to cost me $10 when gas is figured into the equation, since neither dealership is that close to me. Isn't that something how two different dealerships are nearly 100% apart on the price of the same bulb?!

Believe me, if I could get it from a junkyard, I would. But, it ain't happening and I have it out of the car now, so its a "might as well".

If another bulb blows in the future, then I'll most likely do the LED conversion. I don't feel like messing with it now. Too many other things going on. I take it there's probably a "How-To" on the subject?

Thanks for chiming in.

I just did a few searches in the regular and How-To forums and didn't come up with anything.

Are there some threads or How-Tos on converting the ATC lighting over to LED lighting? What do the LED lights look like? Where do you buy them? Radio Shack? Are there pictures anywhere of putting them in?

Its hard to tell how big that bulb is in your pic but if its the size of a 5mm Led bulb and the socket 12.15mm wide at the bottom then try www.superbrightled.com for a led replacement the NEO5-x i believe is what you need.

Look at there 12 Volt LED Car Bulbs area under twist-lock instrument bulbs then go to NeoWedge series LED Lamp to find the NEO5-x replacement.

If you decide to buy them make sure you get the 120 degree pattern one they will give the most even light output without hot spots.

Check these out, only sell them in 10 packs though, which is the only downside

Thanks for all the great info. I think you're right about the one I need. According to the dimensions on the site, the base diameter is a little larger than my OEM bulb and the distance between the leads is a little greater. But, the NEO5-x is closer than the others under the category you told me to look under. The "lock" part looks different on the others, as well. If I measure the base of the socket I have now (tape measure) its about 10mm, nowhere near 12.15mm. The NEO4-x is closer on the base measurement at 9.65mm, but the "lock" mechanism looks totally different.

I tried their bulb finder application, and it doesn't have any listing for these bulbs. Maybe I'll email them and verify.

Do you really think that there's a special light bulb for the ATC vs the MTC??? Think man!

I say again, junkyard.

get a regular incandescent bulb(yellowish output).. a white LED will produce blue button illumination..FYI

searching ebay . http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R4...All-Categories

Or if you want the cheapest route..I have bulbs that I took out of some holders..while doing multiple led swaps for people... I could send them to you ..pm me if you want them.. they're a PITA to get out of the holders..cos they're kinda glued in..but for the most part they come out ..even if you have to break them to get them out..(I have tips on the easiest ways to remove them now..trial and error)

Thanks Spencer.. remember if you ever have an led go out send it back and I'll hook you up with another for free... you shouldnt though..them leds last ages !

Here's a better link than the one I provided first..sorry ....Just remember.. If you get led..it will turn the display to blue *I am going to order some warm white leds to see if they act the same as incandescent bulbs*..
to get the factory green shade you need the yellow *incandescent* light output combined with the blue film on the buttons.

Are these a direct fit for the climate control buttons?

I can't remember offhand the bulb base size etc. I'll check the LED bulbs I got a long time ago from a reliable Ebay seller if I can find them.I handed out several to people at one of Dan's South East meets a few years back.
