Post Opinion poll: Aftermarket projector headlights

Needing a new set of headlights, and looking to get a set of projectors at the end of the month. After all the research I have done, there are two brands that look good. The Spyders and the Spec-Ds. I may go with HIDs in the future for the lows. In your opinions, which would be better?

Spyders:

Spec-Ds:
http://www.carid.com/2004-dodge-intr...-26137866.html

Any other brand I should consider.

Please state the reasons why one is better than the other, the pros vs cons.

Thank you!

I've got the spyders in mine. I mainly wanted them because I run HIDs for the lows and didn't want to be an asshole. I really didn't have any problems with people flashing their brights at me even without the projectors. I will say that it is a pain to get the bulb retaining wire around the base of the HID bulb in the aftermarket headlights. In all I wouldn't say that any of them are worth $200. I would suggest cleaning up the original housings and installing a 35w HID kit. DDM tuning makes a decent kit and I'm using a different brand 55w kit from ebay with my projectors.

I need new housings. The ones I have are too far gone all together, condensation. I already tried resealsing them with no luck.

I got the Spec-D's in mine, I love how easy they were to install, adjustment is a bit of a pain since the screws are not accessible when installed, but I wouldn't go without them now, the difference in light output on the road is just astonishing. I'm running 35w HID's in both the lows and highs and they light up the night sky great.

My spec d's were trash . Clear peeled within a year.

1 year later on the spyders, and they appear to be holding up well.

I'm running 55w though

Besides the clear coat on the specds, how did they light up compared to the spyders? Also with the placement of the turn signals concerns me a little.
I have also read the Spec-Ds don't accept HIDs as easily as the spyders. Is this true?

I would agree with that. My Spec D's seemed like everything was harder to deal with. Overall build quality is inferior to the Spyder headlights. Much easier to do everything with the spiders. Plus I prefer eyebrow lights over the weird 3 bulb setup on the sides

With either brand Headlights I can guarantee you'll be sorely disappointed if you don't put a HID kit in there on the Low Beams

I ran Spyder projectors in my R/T with the piss ant halogen bulbs that came with them and you might as well put a couple of candles behind the projectors! I sold the Spyders to another Member and he installed them with HIDs and he seems to be perfectly happy with that combo.

You need to budget for a HID kit as cheap as they are. A 35w kit is fine. The 55w kits just overdrive the bulbs and shorten there life. Not to mention the added heat.

Ronbo is Ronbo, he doesn't like to pull punches.
How easy is it to modify the spyders for HIDs? I have never done a convetsion before. Any before and after pics? Just want to see if I should wait and get a HID kit before I put them in or not.
I will also get the led bulbs for the turn signals.
As far as color for HIDs, which is better for visibility? I was thinking of going white or blue.

On a side note, for our tail lights, I will research how to set up a complete LED board system that we can put in our tail lights once I also get new tail light housings. I will experiment with my old housings on taking them apart, getting the shape of the circuit board to fit the tail light assembly.

Spyders come with projectors, just plug a bulb in and away you go.

the further up the Kelvin scale you go, the more reduction in visibility. 4-5k is best for visibility.

and ye, I know how Ronbo is after being here for almost 3 years now lol

Awwsome. Thank you for the help. Looks like I will go with the spyders. As far as a HID kit goes, what brand should I get? I'm also wanting to put in HIDs in the fogs. I wonder if there is a projector kit made for them.
I did find a site that sells the HID kits for 36, but not sure.

Justin Ronbo might just have an extra set of Morimoto HID hanging around in his storage area or possibly he might be able to point you in the right direction.

That would be great. I do know I want to go with a 55W HID system. I will either buy a relay harness or set up my own. However what I don't know is if the 2004 intrepid has a canbus or pci for the lighting. I just want to make sure that I am getting what I need.
I will also put in HIDs with the fogs. Have to find a projector retro kit.
Also with the halos on the headlights I will wire them through a relay system to a switched wire so I have true drls in a sense, allowing them to come on when I turn the key on.

Standard HID kit needed. no canbus to worry about or anything like that. I posted on your visitor messages to link you to what you'd need.
