Water Pump

Are there any special tools I need to change the water pump and timing belt. I will start working on this Monday. Anything I need to be careful about. Thanks...

Is this your first one? Pick up the 3-jaw Chrysler puller from AutoZone to get the crank pulley off (refundable when you're done)... Other than that it's mainly hand tools.

Are you changing any hoses/belts/tensioners along with it? Perfect time since you'll have the whole front end apart...

Yes this is my first. I will be changing the timing belt only. I have a 3-jaw puller, not Chrysler. Just put new belts on this summer. I will try not to move the gears. is it easy to move. I saw Dan mark something, when he did it a few years ago. What was that. (I tell you worst thing ever happen to me. Dan moving. wow...)

WTF! How can DI NOT have an official HowTo for 3.2/3.5 TB/WP replacements??? I find 3.3 and 2.7 instructions... but not for the 3.2 or 3.5!

Mike, I don't normally like to send anyone to other sites for info, but at least they have a decent HowTo that should help you:

http://www.l_h_forums.net/forums/showthread.php?t=3827

(remove the underscores in the link above, of course)

I know there's been some threads here and there when members have sought help with a specific issue during their TB install, but I can't find a decent complete how-to here.

The other thing you may need to consider is the size of your 3-jaw puller. The "Chrysler style" one from AZ is low-profile, and can be used with the radiator/condenser still in the car. Many 'regular' 3-jaw pullers won't fit in between the crank pulley and the backside of the radiator... or if they do fit, won't have enough room to remove the pulley (will hit the rad before the pulley is off of the crankshaft).

Thanks again for the help. Its running a little rough when in gear with foot on the brake. Its also time for a new exhust, may have something to do with it. When it did not start I got out of the car and was so mad I could have thru a brick thru the window.

Hmm... keep an eye on that. Sounds a bit like a problem I had when I did my first TB swap - passenger side cam was off by 1 tooth...

Drove it that way for a whole week until I had time on the next weekend to tear the front end back apart to fix.

LOL! A bit sore, are ya?

Try to observe how the engine runs at higher RPMs vs idle speeds... mine idled pretty poorly, but seemed to run great once the RPMs got up there.

Also received a couple of P03XX codes at startup that week when it was off by a tooth. If that kinda stuff happens, I'd definitely plan on pulling the cover back off and at least checking the index marks to see where they're sitting.

Good luck Mike!
