Aux Input on Nonfunctioning Tape Deck.

Tape deck didn't work when I got Spare Parts up and going, but honestly, even if it did, who the hell has audio cassettes these days?
Sure.. I could go out and buy a new stereo, but that takes money(hard to come by these days), so why not take a look around the packrat kingdom and see what we can come up with!

Front audio jack and cord from and old broken puter.
Cut the wires from the plug-into-the-motherboard bit.

Use fingernail clippers to carefully strip the wires.
Disassemble stereo.
Remove tape deck assembly..(a few screws and a wire harness that clips onto the main board).
Where that same harness attaches to the tape deck board, carefully pry the cap off.

Bottom leftmost connection is the ground. Fourth from the left bottom connection is an audio channel. Fourth from the left top connection is an audio channel.
(will include a pic in a follow up post)

The cap doesn't quite fit as snug as before with your new wires installed.. but it seems to be holding everything in place so far.

Had to halt project before completely done reassembling the unit and finding a good place to mount the audio jack, will post follow ups when I can work on it again : )

I don't need anything like this right now, but I am interested. I had talked about far in the future doing a joke audio build with an 8 track, so this may come in handy then.

Part of my home audio runs through the computer from a fully functioning 8 track player. Record player bit the dust again though, low priority on a LONG list of things I'll never get around to fixing.

Check out my same concept on a first gen tape deck...

OEM Stereo mod - https://www.dodgeintrepid.net/forums/...d.php?t=171839

There's a seller on Ebay that does this and sells them, so it should work just fine. The unit of his that I saw him use had a different face than yours and he mounted the audio jack to the right of the display, about half way down the face - looks like yours could go by the volume knob maybe?

The challenge you will run into is fooling the radio into listening to the tape deck channel internally.... maybe slip a blank tape into the deck?
