Gotta Start Somewhere

Got my first thing off the list of fixes in motion. Ordered lifts for hood and trunk. Seems to be the best deal I could find in name brand equipment.

Not to crtiticize, but most of the aftermarket lifts don't last more than 2 or 3 years, but have a lifetime guarantee. For that reason, I only buy them local and keep the receipt in the glove compartment to save return/shipping hassles. I've never looked into the Monroes - maybe they last a long long time, in which case maybe you did the right thing. But then, you didn't need my permission.

Priced a full set of Strong Lifts locally and they were over $100 for the set. Monroe is a major brand that I have used for years for shock absorbers on various vehicles with great results. Alot of the hood lifts I looked at didn't really even have a name on them, just "replacement lifts".,or the STOP brand. Been reading alot of the threads on here in the last couple of days, and seems I should be checking the water pump and PCV valve and hose. Not very familiar with this engine yet.Mostly been a Ford guy all these years other than a Dakota I bought new and kept for 3 yrs. and just sold my Cherokee that I had for about 3 yrs. Lots of threads on here about having to replace engines and do some major work on them to keep them fit and running. Not used to that. My '05 F-150 v-6 has had only oil changes and nothing else needed done to it in 6 yrs. Still runs like new. Only thing I have had to do to it is a fuse and a fuel filter. Makes a newbie skeptical to here about engines blowing, leaking anti-freeze,poorly designed water pumps and timing chains. Dont have the time, funds, or inclanation to be working on a car all the time. Alot of you guys are fanatics about these cars even though you have to keep such a vigilant watch over their systems. Hope I can bring myself to be so enthusiastic alot them !

Speaking of PCV valve - that is one part that you should *only* use aftermarket on our cars. There is a serious design defect in the OEM valves - see https://www.dodgeintrepid.net/showthread.php?t=169951. I bought another OEM one for my 2.7 after I wrote that thread - checked it out before installing it and, though it was the same design, it didn't appear to have the problem. Darn if it didn't start using oil a couple of months ago - first thing I did was check the PCV valve, and it had developed the problem. Replaced it with an aftermarket valve, oil usage back to zero. No more OEM PCV valves for me.

They have always been free from the junk yard for me. Only have replaced the hood and trunk once.
