tire and wheel ordeal?

i really hate bringing this up , as i tried the search function but didnt really seem to get the right answers. I need a set of tires pretty darned bad. My 01 se has the 16 in steelies with hubcaps and i would really like to get factory or aftermarket mags, decent tires etc, all for a pretty low budget, which to me means i am looking at used factory mags, maybe even used tires. I wanted to keep my investment between 3 and 400 bucks ( i know asking a lot , but money is tight).

I have found a decent set of magnum wheels that are 17 x7 in wide. I know the wheels fit without much issue as i had a set of steelie 17's on the other day from a magnum, problem was , the 215/65/17 tires where just too darned tall and were going to rub on the rears.

So, my question is, if i buy the 17 x 7 mags, what tires can i go with and not have the big clearance problems. Is this just too much of a headache and need to find LH series wheels or what. Cant afford to make a bunch of mistakes.

do i need to get the R/T 225/55/17 tires or are there other options, i really liked the way the taller tires filled out the wheelwell better, but as you know its easy to get too tall. I really need to move on this soon as my tires are really bad and indiana winters can be rain, snow and ice and i cant make it till spring with these.

I posted a need for wheels/ tires in the classifieds, but didnt get anything local .

your thoughts and ideas are appreciated

You have the correct size there for 17" tires, that's what I would go with. I have 245/50/R17's on my 17's pictured bellow and theres no issues with fit, but I think the 225/55's look better because they fill the wheel well better. They shouldn't be too hard to find.
