What is this next to the filter i'm new to these motors and have no clue what it is

It is there to quiet the air flowing through intake if i recall. I removed the one on my 300m and plugged the hole with some silicon and a cap from a 5qt oil jug.

Yea, they are there for tuning, noise reduction, etc.

I don't know what kind of advantage you will have to keeping or removing it - since it is not a restriction, you can keep it there - but if you need to make room for something else, you could remove it. Most of the time the most popular intake mod is to just put in an aftermarket CAI of some sort. I'd recomend a JoeKD intake (if he still makes them).

It wont be enough to notice.I just got rid of it because it was in my way and it would be one less thing in my way next time.

When I removed the chamber I used a rubber plug from Lowe's nut and bolt bin aisle and I sealed it with RTV. The plug had a bit of angle on the OD
