Headlights

I have to replace both headlight assemblies due to broken brackets. After doing some research, I have become confused on what exactly I need. So my questions are:

If I go with something like this would it be more be more beneficial to have ballests? I've seen these offered by a number of companies, but seem to all be Syders. Is there another company?

What is I went with something like these and just bought OEM assemblies?

I live in a very mountainous area and my existing headlights are not adequate enough due to being hazy, broken, and just plain crap. I would like to upgrade, but I would like to upgrade properly. Thanks for any help and willingness from the members. Maybe the whole "headlight upgrade" will make the FAQ.

Anyone try these?

my setup is black diamonds with sylvania silverstar bulbs. the black diamonds are the same headlights that you ask about in the last sentence i do believe. look way better than stock and are significantly cheaper than oem assmblies. i use the silverstars because they plug right in and are brighter and whiter than regular bulbs.

Basically I could get the black diamonds, for the time being, and later add a HID conversion and it would basically be like Spyders (except for design)?

HID's really need projectors.

To run HID lights you need the Spyders else you will blind oncoming traffic, I think they are worth it for the price. Also the Spyders have a H1 bulb inside the projector so get the H1 hid kit. I would also recommend getting 4500-5000k for the best light output. I personally run 55w DDM 4500k in mine.

People complain about hot spots but for a headlight set costing a couple of hundred bucks don't expect BMW or Acura build quality. I've had mine for about a year and am quite pleased with them

What do you mean by hotspots? I assume the headlights that do blind me, on the road, lack a projector?
I think I understand it now. Let's see if I have this:

I would need to buythese, so I would have projectors. I'm assuming that the lights included are not HIDs so that is why I would need this H1 HID kit orthese? Thanks for a clearer understanding.

Add: After browsing eBay I see that there are some Spyders that come with the HID kit, like this one.

HID's are five times as bright. Unfocused they blind other drivers. The lenses in the Spyders are not terrible.

You pretty much got it.

http://www.jeepsunlimited.com/forums...d.php?t=535377

Scroll down to the two pics about halfway down the page, the first image shows what the spyder headlight will look like, you can see most of the light is concentrated in the middle (hotspot) whereas in the second picture which has factory projectors it's evenly distributed. I can tell you that while driving on the road you won't even notice it.

Here is a hid color chart
http://www.delonixradar.com.au/hid-x...lour-chart.php

Choose whichever one you prefer, the last link with the hids has 6000k bulbs which will have blue tint to it. In your OP you wanted brighter light which would be 4500k-5000k less would be more yellow and more would be bluish tint then purple as you go higher towards 10000k-12000k. It's completely up to you whom you buy from, I am not getting paid to endorse anyone. I did my research and went with what I thought was the best price and quality wise.

I recommend the hid harness which I believe costs $15 and when I bought mine they didn't sell mounting brackets but thats entirely up to you.The purpose of the harness is to prevent your factory harness from burning out as the hids draw a lot of power on start up but less than halogens when fully lit. Get the hid harness if you are getting the 55w hids for the 35w you don't need them. There is enough space by the headlights to place them flat with double sided tape, the ones provided are crap get some good ones. If you are doing the fogs also get 35w only as the heat from 55w will deform and discolor your reflector. I don't have fogs so I don't know what bulb it has.

Hope the info helps.

With fogs do you just replace them with the HID kit or do you need projectors like the headlights?

In my GTO I have them in the regular housing, they are aimed low enough to not blind the oncoming traffic.
