What I have done before because I was on a major budget, was to order the cheap intake on ebay mainly just for the pipe and bought a $50 K&N cone intake, and for around $100 had a fake-out K&N.

But if you have the money, like PAINTBALLDUDE05 said, K&N is the way to go.

The answer to your question depends on what your priorities in a filter are. If keeping the most dirt from getting ingested by the engine, the answer is not a K&N or similar. If that is secondary, and you want a little more sound and performance, then K&N - yes.

There was a thorough comparative study on many brands of air filters, including K&N, but it is getting hard to find on the internet - apparently K&N's lawyers are constantly on the prowl. If I can find it again, I will post a link.

I went with the K&N but it was a lot more back when I bought it. It was worth it though.

Found the air filter study: http://home.roadrunner.com/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

Only one chart is missing, but enough information is there.
