03 trep police?

ive had my trep police for 3 years now and ive noticed certain things are a little different from normal treps of the same year. like i dont have an egr system. i just wondered what modifications were done to the police models compared to se, es, r/t, sxt. are there 300 special parts on there or not too?

EGR was deleted around 2002.5. That included all the 3.5s, not just the police package.

You'll find lots of information on the police package Treps by using the search function.

ehhh....im not a big fan of chilton manuals....

They are usually EXTREMELY general and dont take into account any differences between the years of certain cars and their engines....

IIRC, the police Intrepids had a 160amp alternator, instead of the 130(??) amp stock alternator. They also had a non-autostick 150mph cluster. They were limited on speed though, and that differs on year. they had brake ducts in the bumper (Intrepid police packages had a problem with the brakes catching fire apparently. Theres a video out there about it....)

They had a more aggressively tuned PCM IIRC as well, and i believe they all had traction control.

Some also still have the spotlight.....and of course the police steelies. dont know of much else though....

yeah i know about the alt and its a pricy one too only offered in a remy and its $204 at my local autozone. and i have had it at the limiter of 132 but ive had the speedo to 134. no traction control though the button isnt even there lol. and yes mine still has a working spotlight. i just didnt know if there was anything else i should know for future part replacement.

Suspension and braking is supposed to be different. Also, I believe there is a jump connection in the rear. I've heard of skid plates as well and am not sure if they all had it, were an option or perhaps an after market mod.

Depends on what agency owned it....
160 Amp Alternator~ Check
150 MPH Non-Autostick Cluster~ Check (I had it modified, now has Autostick)
Speed Limiter~ Not here, that I know of. I've had this car at 150 and there was no indication of a limiter or I haven't been willing to push it harder to find out. (I'd like to keep the engine & trans intact)
Traction Control~ Not here.
Spot Light~ Never had one.

Really? Waht year is yours Fred? Some years didnt have a limiter. Theres a thread with all the PCMs on here somewhere...
And wasn't your car a federally owned car? B/c that would also explain the no limiter PCM, as the federal PCMs didnt have one (dmondeac has one IIRC)

And im really surprised yall didnt have traction control. I couldve sworn I read somewhere on here that most of the police package treps came with it...

And if yours didnt ever have the spotlight, then you would most definitely not have it now....though you would think you could add it if you wanted to....

@ the OP - the police alternator can be had for far less money. Theres always the chance that you find one in the yard, but then again, it might not work (but theyre cheap!!)

And search eBay and craigslist. sometimes youll find a cheapo police trep with a blown motor or something like that and if its getting parted out, then jump on the alternator

You could actually run a normal 130 amp alternator. The police model doesn't need a 160 amp to operate. I believe they just had it because of the potential increased electrical load from strobes, lights, sirens, comm and computer gear. If you're not running the cop gear a normal alternator should work just fine

yeah if i dont have the 160amp alt im going to be putting it on there just cuz im a big stereo guy and it will help a lot to have 160amps to the batt. plus thats the only reason i dont have a stereo in it now is cuz the alt and batt are almost shot.

Seems I've read that people have found them easily on www.car-part.com.
