Question on switching PCMs

So I have a 2004 Special PCM in my possession (thanks Stephan)

I was thinking about putting it in today. Any thread out there on how to do this??

And since my engine is a non- HO (was at one point in time, not anymore. back to stock), will I need to get a HO Plenum with the MTV on it for it to work correctly??

I have the SKIM model and the matching key, so I will need to do that as well. Is there a plug of some sort in the column for me to plug that SKIM module into?? Or do I have to get a Special dash harness with the connector for it to work.

And if I dont want SKIM, is it possible to install the PCM w/o it?? Or will that require a DRB3 reflash?

Thanks

2002 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5L HO 96K March 2010-present

No problem on getting you the parts!

To make it work correctly and get the most out of your engine you will need the HO Plenum. The car will still run fine but you might get a CEL when you go WOT.

You might get lucky and find a plug under the dash, this would be the first thing I would be looking for if I were you because without it your car won't start. Also, you could end up locking out the PCM because it's going to think somebody's trying to steal the car.

You will need the SKIM system there, there's no way of disabling it.

Good luck

I was hoping you would provide some input

Looks like Ill be getting/looking for a HO plenum the next time im in the yard, as well as looking for that passenger side manifold.

And if im not lucky and dont find a plug, then Im going to need to get that dash harness, correct?

I drove my car for 6 months with the pcm and no HO and never got a code, but it was a nice bonus to have the HO. You'll also need the engine harness for HO.

You have an 02 ES.
The connector should be there, right inside the bottom plastic cover, just behind the steering wheel. Probably has some foam tape around it.

I tried this with a pcm, skim and key from an 01 300m.
Disconnected the battery and installed the pcm, skim and taped the key to the skim.
The car would only run for two seconds.....so, i gave up.
I didn't have the bcm so, I never tried again.

The problem is that you tried it with an '01 PCM, then they had the seperate TCM/ECU configuration.

So, you're saying that, in my case, I needed the TCM from that car, too?
I thought I needed the BCM....

If your car is 02+ it wouldnt work at all regardless. You would need 02+ pcm. If your car is 01 then yes you would have needed both pcm and bcm

No, your correct, 98-01 you need the BCM (that matches the ECM you have). TCM has nothing to do with the security features. The BCM not matching the ECM is what gives you the security lockout when you try to start it.

98-01 is a separate ECU and TCM. 02+ was ECU/TCM combined into one PCM.

The plug is black and Should have 4 or 5 wires going to it.

As far as pre-02 goes. If you were to install the ecu, tcm, sentry key and skim from a matching car you will still need the bcm?

Yes you would, unless you have a DRB. The BCM and ECU must be matched in order for the car to start in most cases....sometimes on base model SE's there is no security feature, so you can plug any other ECU without a security feature into them, however, if you plug one with the security in it, such as an ES or R/T, you will also need the matching BCM.
