Cup holder Mod

I was able to drive some of the new Dodge Chargers/Challangers and the new Chrysler 300. Some of these models have some really cool radio/nav units along with U-Connect. But they also had heated/cooled cup holders.

Has anyone ever tried to mod one of our cupholders for this heated/cooled feature?

I'm thinking the heated-cooled feature is mostly ineffective . I have never personally used it though.
Is the heating/cooling tied in with the HVAC being set on heat/A/C

Most cups designed for cars are insulated so heating or cooling the outside of that is pointless. And the cup holder in my Trep contacts 2 inches or less of the bottom of the cup. That's not much contact area to cool or heat a cup.

I'd be interested in hearing from others how the heated and cooled cup holders and glovebox chambers work

I'm not sure how it works exactly.... all I know is the cupholder itself would get colder. You would think this is a risky mod with heat for obvious reasons. Since I don't really drink a lot of hot stuff I'd want to know about the cooling feature. Maybe a way to tie into the rear AC duct...although I don't know how effective it would be.

If you had a molded cupholder, maybe drill holes in the bottom and run another vent from the rear tubing up to the bottom of the cupholder. Downfall is drinking something cold in the winter or something hot in the summer.

Somewhere on this forum I saw a guy that had a lot of center consoles like ours except the holders were molded into the console. They did not "pop" out. Come to think about it, the cup holders I'm talking about didn't pop out either. That might be a place to start.

molded cup holders? ive recently got one, came in later treps i think, but yes they don't pop out, and imo less intrusive than the pop out cup holder.

I highly doubt those cup holders are operated by the A/C unit although I could be wrong. Personally I would talk to someone who would know how they work (serious owners, dealers and maybe some junkyards). If it is indeed electronic like I think it is, as long as you are good at fiberglassing, it should be a fairly simple and relatively cheap install.

I recently ran across the things that cool the car coolers(on ebay)... it's a little square pad deal...like the heated seat pads.. I'll search to see if I can find them again.. I did NOT save it in my lists.

Yes, that would work. If you took the molded cup holders and wrapped them in a thermally conductive material attached that unit and then wrapped the cup holder again in some insulation, it should work gloriously if that heats and cools.
