Interior Body Mods

So am new to the site, my first post not too long ago. Read something about a mod bug, think i got it Ok just a few questions

went with the cheapest/easiest mod for now, LEDs - instrument cluster, map/courtesy lights, trunk, glove box, license plate. Went with these - http://tinyurl.com/interiorleds - fit everywhere & great light

- Haven't had time to open the center console/heater ac/radio, but was wondering how hard is it to change/add LEDs there. The 'old-looking' green with blue/white dash isn't so nice. But Im guessing they are not regular 194 wedge bulbs in there?

- How hard is it to change to a '01 300M cluster. Mine's a '01 SE. Is it just 'plug & play' or are there any required mods. Basically this one - http://tinyurl.com/300mcluster

thanks

First off welcome! The center console shift bezel, along with the 300m cluster uses an electro luminescant element, no bulbs. Center console can be changed, I make custom ones. Clusters can be changed between different shades of blue and green with a phase morpher. Yes clusters are plug and play.

Thanks, I am interested in the heater/ac controls to match the dash, where I put white leds but looks blueish & much brighter.. The radio is going to get changed anyways.. I might also want the great indicators..

So I'll just have to put the new Leds in the 300 dash & install..

So how could I get the custom ones for the center console

Welcome to the site.. LED's are great.. I'm assuming you're trying to get blue illumination?
headlight switch (and POSSIBLY) manual heater controls dont have the same blue film that the stock intrepid cluster have to turn the light green... so if you put a white led bulb in a headlight switch..it will be white light..(same possibly goes for manual heat control unit).. If you want blue your best bet is to go all blue leds.
If you're interested..I custom mount leds into the factory bulb holders .. also will throw in film to change your digital displays to blue ..

I have plans to do custom shifter plates that are LED, not Electroluminescent .. got started..but got lost in project limbo.. (curious to see how WLB136's version) ..got them on the site somewhere ?

Yes, LEDs can go a long way in improving the appearance, they are easy & cheap! Good for a first Mod..
I wasn't really trying to go for a blue look but rather white, so I added white LEDs to the 'ILUM' spots in the instrument cluster/dashboard. Since that's all I did they turned out blue, which still looks really nice & I plan to keep it. But i was surprised how easy it was to change, just swap to 194 LED bulbs

What i've been wondering is if the manual heater/ac controls & the headlight switch (& really any other lighted component inside) require the same type of bulb or they are all electroluminescent or special bulb mount. Otherwise If they do take 194-type bulbs (LEDs) but look white, I wouldn't really mind, I think the white & light blue will blend nicely as opposed to blue & green or white & green or just all 'boring' green !

I guess I'll have to open it all up & see, but for now i ran out of LEDs. If i do need custom mounts for the bulbs and you do it I'm definitely interested.

If you guys have pictures of your sets would be great too.

I dont know what bulbs are used in the manual heater controls.. but i'm about 90% sure they're NOT 194's ... Just use this.. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/236902...edan-4d/page-8
But I would suggest sanding down the round end of the led so it's flat..that will diffuse the light and spread it out evenly..you wont have an much chance to have issues with hot spots if you do this. ... I did it to an led once..and now I sand down EVERY led I install it works so much better.** you can sand it down as far as you like..just dont hit the metal part in the inside**
Also I'm about 99.5% sure that if you put white bulbs in the heater control unit..it will turn out blue........the headlight switch will be white cos it dont use the film the other units use.

The only things that I know of that use EL (electroluminescent).. is the 300m gauge cluster & shifter indicator lights on bezel
Headlight switch and overhead console uses different bulbs..
If you want your mirror adjustment switch done I do them for $25 total. white will show white......I did mine like this..up and down are white... left and right are blue

Where do you get your leds from.. I use a couple ebay sellers that I would recommend without hesitation

Funny I was about to edit my post, but you're absolutely right, I did the research & it's the type of LEDs that you have pictured. I figured there was no way 194s fit in there, but wasn't 100% sure. Probably get the ones I need at radio shack or through ebay in more quantities & same price
Good advice in sanding the end of the LED. Blue will be fine as it'll match the dash. Or white - I think it'd blend w blue & go w the current white overhead/map led lights I added.
Can't wait to get rid of the green, now i'm wondering about the radio haha ... that'll get changed altogether eventually anyways

I was really considering the 300M cluster until I recently saw how it looks at night (plus the issues with Autostick). Not a huge fan, I mean it's nice but tbh I like how mine currently looks as much or even more. I'm guessing you could get a nice white by changing/messing with the ELs, but I don't want it that bad. I would still like the chrome rings though.

I also just finished 'blacking out' the tail lights with vht's nite shade, first time i've done this & have to wait until tomorrow for them to fully dry & see how it turned out, pics if it's all good. Hopefully not too dark that'll attract 'unwanted' attention.

I could use good ebay sellers! ...By the way These are the LEDs i got (194) that fit everywhere i wanted (map/overhead, trunk, glove box, license plate, instrument cluster) & give a nice light all around.

Personally I would get my leds from Ebay..the MCD (brightness) in the radio shack ones that I've seen are pretty low and you dont have much of a choice there.. I dont know about you but I like my leds bright!..Link below

I would still like the chrome rings though. If you want the chrome rings..you might look into Concorde clusters.. the face is black..but uses same illumination type as yours.

Hopefully not too dark that'll attract 'unwanted' attention. Clear coat, Wet sand /buff/polish them..they'll look great.. unless you're going for the semi-gloss look

I could use good ebay sellers! ...By the way These are the LEDs i got (194) that fit everywhere i wanted (map/overhead, trunk, glove box, license plate, instrument cluster) & give a nice light all around.

Here's a link for the seller I use.. make sure the auction comes with free resistors.. they sell some that dont now and then.. or ask them if they do. I've used them repeatedly 0 complaints yet. http://shop.ebay.com/jeledhk/m.html?_trksid=p4340.l2562
Link for an item from a seller I use.. $20 for 100 pre wired leds..very nice! http://cgi.ebay.com/100PCS-12V-DC-20...item5d291de6ef *** see other items

Not special? It looks awesome. I really like RAILOFFROADER's version, so am interested!

@Railoffroader2 Thanks, mine will also be all LED/HID. It's just such a change. Might take a while but it'll get there!

Great info! I'll most likely use ebay for any LEDs, will just have to wait. But bright LEDs are good. I also thought about the Concorde cluster but I do like the white face. I guess those things could be switched around? (To get a white face & chrome rings & current illumiation)..

Tail lights came out ok. Haven't done wet-sand, polish/buffer since clear coat but plan to. Although the semi-gloss isn't bad. However they came out a little too dark. By dark I mean the lights don't really show/shine as much as I think they should (safety reasons of course) I'm wondering if it's because of the bulbs & if LEDs might solve this. Or if somehow ill have to 'decrease' the black. Any advice?

Good links! But I'm a little confused, do the ones that are pre-wired also include/need resistors? They are not mentioned in the listing. Also I guess 5mm is the size to work with?
Thanks
