Strut Mounts

Lots has been talked about the front strut mounts, but I have a couple questions nonetheless.

First of all: has anyone actually had luck with the Monroe strut mounts (either separate or as coming with the quick strut)?

Next question is: can the OEM mounts be reused if need be?

The reason I asked is because I had figured the mounts would be like $40 or so, but come to find out its $95 from the dealer! That's more than what the strut costs. Monroe mounts by themselves are $75 at work and Moogs are $150, that just seems nuts.

Now, I'd be willing to pay for new OEM ones if I had lots of money, but since I'm things are, as ever, tight, I was just wondering what opinions were on these to questions: Do I see about reusing the old mounts and coil springs with new insulator and struts, or has anyone actually had any luck with the Quick Struts not going bad after a few months. I really don't want to let that strut go any longer than I have to, last thing I want is for the thing to brake and damage the tire and other components in my driveway, and I'd like to replace both struts so its even.

The only thing dependable about the future is uncertainty.

I have been wondering the same thing. The money that is wanted for those mounts is stupid. Also I have been wondering if someone had a comprehensive parts list for performing the strut replacement to make the car drive like new.

Never had an issue with Monroe mounts....although there was a bad production run of quickstruts with defective mounts a few years ago...all is well now.

IMO, unless your doing quickstruts, dont replace the mounts unless they need it...meaning bad/dryrotted/loose/cracked mounts, rubber separating, or a bad strut bearing in one of the steer axle mounts.

So it was a bad run then? If it has indeed been taken care of (I came across the thread), then I plan to go Quick Struts. $130 on amazon which gets me a whole new unit and all the components ready to install. Hearing that things seem to be well now makes me feel better about them Dan.
