Adding MP3 port to factory radio

Has anyone tried to put an MP3 port in our factory radios? I hate the look of aftermarket radios in our cars. They factory ones work great, but all I want to do is plug my iPod in. I have the tape deck adaptor, but there is a lot of background noise that comes with it and takes away the sound quality. Any advice would be great.

Do you have a CD changer below the radio?

I asked if you had a CD changer already due to the fact that you can splice into the interconnect cable between the radio and the changer to an Aux jack. If you don't have a changer...you don't have the interconnect cable and that will limit how you can do this. Read.

Sorry dude, didn't mean to disappoint you. No, I don't have a CD changer. But If I need to find radio's that have them, then I'll start looking. I have a couple with a square black port on the back - looks like an overgrown phone plug; would splicing into those work? The cars I've seen with the seperate CD changers don't have a cd player in the radio itself, just a tape deck.

Guess you haven't taken a good look at the back of the radio you have in there now vs the couple with the "overgrown phone plug" on the back?

No I really haven't, but I did this morning though. I found I have three different styles of radios in different vehicles.

The first is a deck with 6 disc changer - it has the round plug in the back, no CD player in the radio itself.
Second is a digital title scroll that is XM ready with the big square plugs on the back
Third, I have lots of these - no aux plugs, just the standard two flat grey/black.

So which ones would I need to put the ports in with?

The first or second if you are planning to mod an aux jack into the cd changer cable. I can add an aux port directly to the stereo but I'm not giving that info out for free.

Are the stereos that you're working on like the one shown in the third picture above? Is the aux jack in the stereo faceplate or is it loose so that it can be installed somewhere else?

Yea, if you have the pt#'s and where you get them, that would be great! Thanks.
