Question 300M Grill replacement???

Okay, I searched and searched and got nothing useful. I want to replace my nasty faded grill with an aftermarket one. Now, how do you remove the old one since it seems to be attached to a support bar by metal rivets? Do I have to drill those out and attach the new grill with something else? Any info, especially from those who have swapped for an aftermarket grill on their 300M, thanks!!! J

Download the service manual (https://www.dodgeintrepid.net/showthread.php?t=94402) and take a look at page 1495 in the pdf (in the complete manual) - it gives the steps for removing and installing the grill. Unfortunately, it looks like you'll have to drill out the rivets.

With all the things that were designed well on these cars, why the hell would they make it so that the grill was not easily replaced in case of damage??!!! Sssiiiggghhh, lame! Thanks man.

No prob.

When you're putting it back together, you might be able to use sheet metal screws in place of the rivets so it's easier to remove in the future. I'm not totally sure though, because I've never really looked closely at a 300M grill.

Painting it would be the easiest and cheapest route and still give you the desired results. IF you decide to replace it you may be able to reuse the plastic rivets if you are careful. I have bought them on ebay for about $13 for a box of 10. This last time I had the bumper off I didn't find them so I used the handyman's 'other' secret weapon, zip-ties!

There are a lot of aftermarket grills on ebay. If I had an M thats what I would do. Just don't get one that has a bentley logo on it

x3 on the paint. Less than $10 in supplies and you'll have it looking better than new. That's what I'll be doing to mine.

Well GEARHEAD, that does look nice! I already paid for a diamond pattern chrome grill and it is on it's way though. Thanks for the responses, it looks like drilling out the metal rivets and using something else in their place with the new grill is what is gonna need to happen. Hopefully over my coming Summer break, I can finally get pictures goin since I have had the car like a month and a half now!!!

My 99 didn't have metal rivets holding it in, it had little metal clips that could be reused.

Masking tape, a newspaper, flat black engine enamel and 30 minutes is all you need.
