2.7 alternative throttle body?

I see all the stuff for boring out the stock body and using the butterfly from a 3.2/3.5 tb. What about swapping it out entirely for something completely different? I have some extra Mustang 5.0 throttle bodies here which are 65mm and an aftermarket 70mm one. They have a very nice smooth shape and the round inlet. The TPS is the same range so its not an issue. I'm sure I could figure out something easy for swapping the cable mounts.

For me, it seems like less work to make an adapter plate than to have a machine shop bore and then have to modify the tb even more for the plate to fit.

I am correct that the lower portion below the throttle plate isn't used on the 2nd gens, right?

I remember ether here or on the other site a member took a throttle body and bored it to 68mm and used a second gen butter fly plate. All he had to do was trim the opening on the plenum a bit with a dremel.

Yes, but he had to have the 2.7 tb bored at a machine shop, had to alter the shaft to fit the larger butterfly, and had to buy the extra tb, too.

Is the lower opening used in these model years? Or is it used only on the older ones? I don't have one to look at to see.

I have both mustang and Intrepid TB's sitting on my workbench right now and can tell you with 100% assurance you aren't going to interchange them

Everything is different, not just talking the bolt pattern but the cable connectors, the TPS, etc

I know they are different and it won't just bolt up. I was talking about an adapter plate to bolt it up to. And the TPS uses the same exact reading(0-5 volts), so the harness plug could just be swapped. I'm confident I can cut the cable end off the 2.7 TB and weld it onto the Mustang TB with ease.

It didn't strike me at first that the lower portion of the 2.7 TB is for the idle air control. I don't see why I can't block that off and use the idle air control on the 5.0 TB to do the same thing. I will have to see the values at which the 2.7 operates to make sure though.

I'll still check local machine shops to see how much it will cost to bore and weigh that against the Mustang one. Benefits of the Mustang TB would be easier intake plumbing(true round throttle body) and I could easily swap different sizes and see how it responds. I could bolt up anything from 55 or 58mm to 80mm throttle bodies. I know I have a 65mm, and a 70mm on hand.

Sounds solid to me. Let me know how this works out.
