So uh...I really want headers. :)

I have a metals class and really want to fab up a custom exhaust for my Intrepid. I was thinking side pipes but I also have dual straight pipes in mind. Also where can I get some headers and what kind of fab work would be needed? Is there any sort of V8 headers I can buy chop off one of the tubes and repatch it? What size pipes would you recommend I use?

Don't waste your time...any gain you would get from the headers would be negated by the convoluted plumbing you would need to route the exhaust out of the engine bay.

Grab a set of 1G 3.5 exhaust manifolds, I did it, and I love it.

So I will make sure to grab a set of those...will the exhaust i currently have hook right up to them? Or do I get to have some fun possibly making some dual straight pipes or something of the sort? Which style gets a nice loudness and still has that good sound?

Might as well go for some dual exhaust fun while your at it.

Next question...dual exhaust or side pipes? I have seen side pipes before on an intrepid (Rusty Shakelord to be exact) and I thought it looked pretty cool. Also what size pipes should I run? Any specific pattern to run the pipes? Specific or favorite type of muffler? Where could I get all the piping?

I have side pipes on my first gen with 2 Thrush glasspacks. Kinda loud gonna put some Flowmaster 40's behind those glasspacks and I'm going to redo the piping after the mufflers because currently it's got flex-pipe. I'd say go with the size from the current exhaust manifolds for pipe size unless you do get custom headers, then go with whatever saize is on them. And from reading on here and exhaust clips and hearing the mufflers myself I'd definitely go Flowmaster 40's on these cars. Sounds SICK

Do you know the size of pipe that hooks up to the first gen headers? Any mods needed to shove those headers in there? Are there any cars with duals that could hook up to these headers? I would like to fabricate my own but I dont know where I could get the exhaust piping. Also since I will be working class I might want to have the right size cat as well because teachers sometimes like to follow the rules.

Are these a direct bolt-on ? Are they the same on the 3.3 and 3.5 ? I have a 02 R/T.

Only the manifolds from a 1G 3.5 will bolt on a 2G 3.5
Now, the 3.3 looks to be similar to the 2.7 bolt pattern...never verified it personally.

That's what I had thought. I guess I forgot to mention that I had a 2.7 (I thought I did) but oh well. Do 1st gen 2.7 manifolds flow better than the 2nd gen ones?
