100% sure

Hey gang,

I miss my intrepid, alot.

So today after work, I went cruising around town to see what we had locally available for intrepids.

Everything is crazy over priced BUT I found one for $500 with a 'slight' issue...

2000 SE 2.7l, old man almond, 246,xxxkms... Doesn't run. Computer is fried and it will cost over $3000 (wjat the dodge dealer told me) to fix it... (also is sitting AT said dodge dealer)

Here is where I need help.

Remember when my first 2.7l went and I bought a parts car for the engine?
2001 SE 2.7l, lightly scratched and dented blue, 151,xxxkms...

Anyone guess where this is going??

Will the 2001 computer swap over to the 2000 with ZERO Issues??
The bod is MINT on the 2000, may need the timing chain and water pump etc, but I willwait on that till it at least starts first.

Regardless, it may be worth the $500 as I will be in need of various body panels for my 99, but it would feel great to get back behind the wheel on an intrepid again!! And I can continue with pursuing 2.7l performance tweaks, like the exhaust and what not...

Thanks for reading the rant, and hopefully this should work out perfectly fine aside from the possibility of the odometer being wrong, but I don't plan on selling it, just keep it as a back up maybe gift it to the girlfriend so she doesn't have to drive her 'death trap' (99 grand am with more wrong with it than right)

I think their are issues with the swap but I'm not 100% sure. I know when a member here installed an '01 PCM in his '99 M that the airbag light was on because the PCM came from a car with side airbags.

ya an 01 pcm in an 00 trep I think would cause some issues. I myself am experiencing some issues because I have an 01 trep with a 00 pcm and the cruise atc and evic temp do not work so....

they are both fairly basic SE models. I am mostly concerned about it just running. My 99 has an 01 engine and ALWAYS had the CEL on, no big deal, so long as she runs, that is my main concern.

Tho based on the fact of what I need in regards to my body work, I may pick it up and if the pcm swap works out, Minty! if not, well I spent $500 on body panels and I need paint anyways

for '01 they changed the electronics, then went to a single pcm in '02. you'd have to swap all the computers including the fuse box and the dash wiring unless you changed the pins into the fuse box. its a sob, i had an '01 and now have a '00 so i've heard the problems.

on second though, i think they just changed the in-cab wiring, can't remember for sure. you'd either have to change the interior wiring to make the '01 bcm wire up so the pcm would work, or just use the '01 pcm and have the dealer flash it to the new car.

In cab wiring in the 01's are very similar to the 02+. The engine side of things is pretty much identical to the pre 02's though. I'm sure that it will run and function(as long as there are no sentry issues) but I can't guaranty no CEL's.

CEL's dont bother me. Im looking at doing this swap as a learning experiment, and if it shits the bed, then I have the body panels I need for $500 anyways.

I'm not looking at doing this to fix it and flip it for a profit. I just would like to have an intrepid to drive again, and something a fair bit cheaper than running my 6.0l truck all the time...

'IF' it swaps over and has no issues running, I will be looking at timing chain and water pump etc.. they could be shot already to at 246,xxx kms, so I may get it swapped over to start a shot engine, or an engine that needs work

Should be picking it up next Sunday, I just wanted opinions if it would run or not. I'm looking at a back up car / experimenting car, not a daily driver.

I could plug in and fire her up and hear nasty knocking sounds yet. Or the motor could be pooched before I begin.
