Well that there's your problem...

Starting tearing into by brothers (bh1992) 300m this afternoon and this is what we found.

The lip of the cog sheave looks like it has been beat with a ball peen hammer and it has done some pretty nasty chewing on the belt. Who knows how long it has been like this. It could have came from the factory for what I know. The belt and water pump both seem to be original so I can't imagine why anyone would have been in there to do this damage.

We ended up bending it back with pliers and getting it to where we felt it would not rub.

I also noticed the actuator seemed to be a lot easier to squeeze than others I have dealt with, so I made a quick trip to Des Moines to pick up a new one ( I used the discount codes from Advance Auto to save $35)

So this project is tabled until tomorrow morning.

I also removed the rad, as I promised I would since doing it the "easy" way last time. I will also be replacing the rad hoses and adding a lower rad hose heater.

Also, I just had this thought come to me:

I added the lower rad hose heater not thinking about the thermostat being on the lower hose. Will I not get the full effect of the heater with the thermostat blocking circulation?

If the heater is close enough to the thermostat it might be enough to make the thermostat open up - assuming the heater would bring the water above 180 - but it would be a pretty quick open/shut as the cold water from the rad replaced the heated water.

What symptoms did you have for this problem? Noise? Or just routine maintenance?

Well it is tabled once again on account of a worn a/c idler. Hopefully me and brandon can get it back together tomorrow evening.
