Question 2.7 MTV and PCM

I have an 02 2.7 intrepid and have been thinking about getting one of those 2002 Special PCMs but then I read about people putting in MTV in as well but would the special pcm operate the mtv or no?? Can you use the same pcm and have it reprogrammed to run like 2002 special pcm?

Haha, didn't think Id come across another, lol. To the best of my knowledge im the only one running a Special PCM with a 2.7. Its alot of work getting it to run. Sadly enough its not a simple matter of plug and play. You having an SE, chances are very likely that you don't have SKIM (gray key). ALL Special PCMs require SKIM to operate. That means youre also going to have to yank the dash and swap the dash harness in order to have SKIM. THEN you would need to install ATC because no Special came with MTC and its a totally different setup. Then after all that is said and done, swap the ignition lock cylinder with one that matches the SKIM key. After all that, you can then plug in the PCM and play IF it already matches the SKIM. I lucked out and got all 3 matching items so I didn't require a reflash. When running that PCM, you'll have 2 codes. One is P0660, which is the MTV. The other is P2008, which is the SRV that 3.5HOs and 3.2s have. No 2.7 came with it and it can't be modded onto the existing plenum. This winter ill be doing extensive tuning to my motor and I will be looking at how to run the MTV. There's already an existing spot for it as Cloud car 2.7s and earlier ES' came with them. Its just a matter of finding what pin goes where. If you have any more questions, just post up!

I believe I have seen your car on YouTube!!! Now i have to say I'm not shocked you are a member of di.net!! Is there any possible way of bypassing that skim deal or no? That just seems rather unpleasant!! Would a regular 3.5 PCM have any benefit and would it also run a 2.7 MTV? I really love 2.7s for some reasons and really want to give her a little boost but getting a security key system and atc. Where did you get your PCM at?

Unfortunatley bypassing the SKIM is not an option. However its not all bad. Sure its a PITA to hook it up, but you get a pretty stout anti theft system....and the PCM goodies. Using a regular 3.5 PCM probably wouldn't yield any performance increase and it would throw your speedometer off by 6-7% due to normal 3.5s having 3.66 gears vs the 2.7s and Specials having 3.89s. There's no way around that ones either. When I changed the PCM, I swapped the upper dash harness, lower dash harness, main body harness, and roof harness along with the PCM and SKIM. I got all those from another member on here. Just keep your eyes open. Like I said, the easiest way to do this is to get all 3 matching (same car) Saves you the time and cost of having a n expensive reflash. Oh yeah...kudos to you liking your little 2.7! I felt all alone with me liking mine is Haha. Just don't forget about taking care of it. Its a very temperamental motor. Synthetic oil changes every 3k, waterpump every 75k and TC and tensioner every 100k. Doing that will guarantee many miles of smiles.

Do you think the speicial can run the 2.7 MTV? Oooo I change my oil at 2500 miles and just replaced the water pump back in end of June beginning of July!
