Congrats!!

That looks really good!

I'd like to see where you attached to the frame of the car... Did you have to cut any plastic to get it installed? If someone with a 1st gen car lives close enough to you, there may be some first gen owners that would want one as well (I don't personally, but someone may).

From a function viewpoint, I'm not liking the diamond plate. That'll mark the hell out of anything you touch with it.

If it's to be functional, it'll need an upper attachment point. Otherwise it'll end up just smashing the hood.

(Not hating, just being practical.)

I don't think the police ones have an upper mounting point - but I wonder if they have a second mount point to triangulate the bottom of the bar - mounting through the slots in the bumper.

I'm thinking the real ones had mounts that went through holes in the bumper also. But I really don't know what they attached to.

The common upper mounting point is only about half way up.

<Later>
I just went out and looked at my car. I don't see where the upper mounting point is. Maybe I just dreamed it???
</later>

They didn't sell the push bar with my car. :-(

But they did offer about thirty of them later. ;-)

But I didn't buy, 'cause I only needed one. :-(

Nope - it is mounted to something solid under the car... don't know what though - but not mounted to just the bumper (plastic facia).

I didnt cut the bumper i made brakets and welded them to the lower cross support and they kick up right below the bumper. Then the push bar is bolted with 4 1/2" bolts. The cop bumpers are aluminum and have no upper support. I assure you if i hit another car only thing i will have to worry about is re powdercoating it. Lol. But since its solid to my cross suport if i hit something solid could damage front under the engine but i doubt it. Looks like cross part is 1/8" thick then on the sides it bolted to supports that travel back.

That sounds great! I'd bet you could easily adapt your lower brackets to fit a first gen.

The only thing I don't like about what you did was that you welded to the frame of the car - I much prefer bolt on attaching to the frame, even if holes have to be drilled... but - welding is probably the most secure.
