That would be your PCV. hose. There should be a fitting in the upper intake manifold(PCV valve). The hose that runs off of it is connected to a heater canister. the hose off of that connects to a fitting at the rear of the driver side cylinder head.

I thought I had a pic:

If you haven't downloaded the factory service manual, you really should. All kinds of good info in there

You are referring to #2 in the illustration above, right?

The PCV valve is supposed to be screwed into that hole.
If the valve is there, you can connect your pcv hose directly to it.
The early versions 98, 99 and maybe 2000 just ran a molded hose from the valve over to the valve cover.
The later versions all used a heat exchanger in between.

On my swaps, I just picked up a new PCV valve from AZ and the molded hose from the dealer.

I think you could putt around a day or two without it. You would want to plug the hole on the upper manifold so there isn't a vacuum leak. You would also want to block the hole at the other end that goes into the engine.

you can just get a few feet of 5/8" heater hose from AAP along with an assortment of hose clamps. you'll have to change the hose every year because it isnt made to stand up to oil, but it will do the job at 1/10th the cost of the dealer cost for the PCV hose.
