Changing 300M Cluster Illumination Color?

I've seen this done before in a picture somewhere. But to be honest I'm not entirely sure how to go about it, as I don't exactly want to rip apart the faceplate just to figure it out and ruin it in the process.

Simple LED swap or that much more?

Much more actually.

I know theres a phase morpher you can use for the electro luminescent clusters....

not sure how easy it is on regular clusters

from what I understand you can change the color but your limited to blues and greens, and to get the more blue color out of it you have to up the current to the EL sheet inside the cluster (with a phase morpher), which also shortens the life of the el sheet, IMHO the way to do it would be to install some kind of color translucent sheet in between the el sheet and gauge face. (once again sticking to greens and blues )

I used to have a Phase Morpher, never heard of it shortening the life of the EL

Search eBay for el inverter , or electroluminescent inverter $7-$10 ,
Installation isn't bad, there are 2, ways to do it, one way might cause a very low buzzing sound from time to time, the other apparently gets rid of it. I Haven't messed with clusters for a while

CAnt the first gen clusters be modded with LEDs fairly easily? (At least someone on here has LEDs in theirs). Whats the difference between those and the non-EL 2nd gen clusters?

the connectors. non transferable. You need the faze morpher brand because it comes with a ballast that you need to solder on to the back of the original cluster where the face connected with a few wires to prevent the buzz from the on board EL inverter.
Then you use the faze inverter to connect to the cluster wires. Only green and blue.like my avatar. once you have the ballast thingy, you can use whatever inverter you want. Use the parking wire as the power source in the wire bundle next to the driver seat.

The standard 2nd gen clusters actually use the same PC 194 bulb/sockets as the1st gens so they can be done the same way as the 1st gens.

You can use my How-To to see how the leds are added to the factory sockets.

what if you take the gauge face out of the 300m cluster then get an intrepid cluster, take the gauge face out of that and slap the 300m face on the intrepid cluster? Seeing how the intrepid clusters uses 194 style bulbs and the 300m gauge face is practically clear, you could install LEDs with the color of your choosing. I'm not to sure if I worded this right, but I think I should experiment. I do have a bunch of 300m and intrepid clusters laying around my basement....

Watch this. Tells you more about electroluminescence and ideas you can use.

Any of those 300M clusters happen to be Special clusters?
