99 intrepid and dual exaust

I was under under my new-to-me intrepid checking oil leaks when I looked down the center valley and noticed I had dual exhaust...well till I got to the muffler. Looks like i could have it? not sure farther back theres room. Is it possible? any benefit from it if it is possible? I need to replace the muffler soon anyway since its rusted out.

I'd fix your "major" oil leak(s) first rather than worrying about dual exhaust. But then that's just me.

Awesome! Only question I have left is what is the part that the front half of the exhaust run into? I thought it was the muffler? Then I noticed at the rear there was what looks like another muffler? Sorry to ask a dumb question. If it seems like that. I JUST bought my intrepid after being a Jeep man for 12 years.. I love it! Cant wait to tinker with!!

Resonator up front.........then into a muffler which sits sideways under the middle of the car, then to another resonator at the tailpipe.

It goes from each manifold into the two cats, one being on each side as you've noticed. Then runs down into that "muffler" looking object, that is a resonator. From there, the factory only uses one pipe, which leads to your muffle which sits side-way by your gas tank. From there it goes to the rear "muffler" you see behind the car, that, is also a resonator.

Expensive system to replace with factory parts!

You can easily convert it to duals, just cut off the first resonator and run two pipes back. That'll give you a true dual exhaust which will give you an excellent boost in performance and sound!

If your on a budget or not after spending a lot and dealing with the work, just replace your main muffler (one sitting side ways) with a one-in-two-out muffler. Then run two pipes to the tips, where ever you like. Deleting any and all resonators is completely optional.
