Exhaust Recomendations - 2002 SXT

I am planning on getting a deeper exhaust with more rumble for my 2002 SXT 3.5L HO. I was thinking flowmaster. I want the car to sound as close to an old mopar muscle car as possible. I called a custom exhaust guy and he said that he would remove the rear resonator and the stock muffler, then he could try different mufflers for me, and I could pick the one I like the best. So basically its a muffler swap and rear resonator delete. Is this a good idea? Is flowmaster the way to go? I do not want it to be tinty like a bumble bee jetta. Thanks

No matter what you do, that 3.5 won't sound like an old Mopar muscle car. Flowmaster and Magnaflow are pretty decent sounding on our cars and they don't have that tinny sound.

My son just did his exhaust. He works for a company that does lots of work with stainless pipe. They stripped a bunch out of another company and he got about a dozen 2 1/2" polished pieces about 10 feet long and some nice 90 degree elbows. He picked up a Flowmaster SIDO and some nice tips and tigged it to all together. He ran it from the front resonator back using mine for the template. Looks and sounds pretty nice. He probably has about $200 in it with the muffler, tips and hangars, plus a few bucks to the shop for the use of their lift and welder. He is a member here so I will tell him to get some pictures.

Just slap on a Flowmaster 40 Delta single inlet dual outlet and delete the rear resonator.

I had a Flowmaster 80 installed in the OEM spot on my Intrepid, had a muffler shop bend pipes and weld dual tips on. This was 5+ years ago......total cost = $73 for muffler, $40 for tips, $100 for pipes & install. Sounds mean, but it IS louder than the Magnaflows everyone here is recommending. Problem is that it drones a bit when going up hills around 2200RPM. I don't have any of that tinny vibration in my exhaust note......probably because I kept the Y resonator at the front of the car installed.

I ended up going with Magnaflow, rear resonator delete. Still has front resonator. Its deep, but not excessivly loud. I have a video on YouTube, if you want to see it, its in the second gen discussion, 2002 Intrepid SXT - my minor mods. Thanks

I run Magnaflow on everything. My '02 had a single SS Magnaflow muffler that sounded (and still does, the new owner still gets compliments on the sound) awesome. I'm now running a round SS 2.5" on my Jeep Cherokee with the 4.0 inline 6 and it pretty tough too. Can't go wrong with that company.

That's a mighty NICE sound with that 2.7L

I didn't read, (Like most of the time), and assumed that was a 3.5L

The interior is a great match as well!

Agree, that sounds like a 3.5 with an aftermarket muffler. Very nice, I would have a hard time choosing between my Flowmaster and the way that thing sounds.
