am i screwed?

I was driving home from work and my car began acting very odd when I got home. I checked oil, and apparently, the oil filter seal came undone and leaked most of the oil out. I had less than a quart. But I changed the filter and oil. It seems to be running fine but I noticed I could see my flywheel. Am I missing a cover? Do I need it if so? Sorry I know it seems dumb but I'm not very familiar with these cars. Also I cant seem to give pics since I am on my cell phone. If you want to see just pm an email or cell number and I can send pictures

Welcome Aboard! If you are posting from an Android phone, you can download the Autoguide app - then you can post pictures directly from your phone once you have enough posts here on the board to post pictures in the first place. I think you need 10 or 15 posts.

Thanks man! I'll have to get that; do you know if the cars have or need the flywheel cover though?

On the second gen cars, there is a fly wheel cover that should be there - it is a large cast aluminum part, and is a structural tie for the engine to transmission... You should have one...

Was your engine or transmission ever replaced?

Someone from second gen can confirm, but I think any year second gen (98-04) of your engine size will fit. 3.2 and 3.5 still be the same, 2.7 may be different.

Someone on the board here may have one, or your local junkyard should be able to help out.

Yep, any 1998 - 2004 Intrepid or Concorde with a 2.7 will do.

There are, like nine bolts that hold it in place and there is a sequence for tightening them in the FSM as well as torque specs.

If you look at this picture, you will see the piece, behind the red lettering and red arrow points to part of it, that you need.

According to the part pdf's, the same part (called "structural collar") is used on all badge and engine options (i.e., 2.7, 3.2, 3.5, 300M, LHS, Concorde, Intrepid - doesn't matter).

That tightening/torqueing sequence is critical since some of the bolts and mating surfaces are 90 from each other. If not done right, could break the oil pan or something from the stresses.

Unbelievable that someone left that part off!
