Dual Exhaust Question

Several people around here have dual exhaust setups. I know of at least 2 who had Flowmasters (40 series?), and said they were very loud. Me being the "why?" person that I am, called Flowmaster. They said that particular muffler would be very loud on an Intrepid because it sits right under the passenger compartment. It was designed for a Camaro, and would sit under the trunk. That makes oodles of sense. Here's my question. In the link below...

bbull (the ghost member) has pipes all the way to the back and mufflers in the rear. SO... my idea was to reverse that, and have a muffler at the front (like we already do), and just run pipes all the way to the back. Is there any reason why this wouldn't work? Or are there some foreseeable problems? Thanks.

I have one big Dynomax in the middle muffler postion. That splits out the back as duals. It is nice a low tone at idle up to 3,000 rpm`s. Then above 3,000 rpm`s it really starts to get loud. Or at a dead stop if i floor it it gets really loud. Your idea may work if you have the room ? As for the Hp between mufflers they are very close with in 1 to 2 Hp of each other. Some are louder than others your local muffler shop should know how is louder or not.

Yeah i have 2 flowmaster duals they are loud as shit sometimes me as young as i am gets sick and tired of them and wishes i had a quite ride.

If the Flowmaster 40 series is too loud, than why not look at the Flowmaster 50 series. An even quieter option would be the Flowmaster 50 series with Delta technology.

Interesting...

Spook - I'm pretty sure we have the same amount of room. ;) "Really loud" above 3000RPM... That might be bad for me. I spend a lot of time on the NJ turnpike at 90+ speeds, and it would probably be bad to draw any more attention to myself. At least until I get my radar detector fixed.

Warlord - You have a point, but here
Flowmaster 50 series
There is a link to a PT Cruiser (which is basically our engine) with it installed, and it sounds like a beefed up rice rocket.

I may just have to wait until I get another car as a daily driver and make Zero my "Funmobile". I hate being practical...

I haven't heard the sound clip (damn computer at work doesn't have the sound card drivers installed :mad: ), but the PT Cruiser only has a four cylinder engine. Not even close to our engines. That could be why it sounds like a beefed up rice rocket.

I must have been thinking about the Prowler. But, the "Camaro 383 ci (modified)" that's also listed doesn't sound too great either. Maybe I should just stay below 90... How likely is that? Not very.

ahh..the dual exhaust, remember, I had a Flowmaster 80 series on mine and it was WAY too loud..

since then I had a Dynomax SuperTurbo put on and I am much much happier! has a nice growl too it, but yet doesnt make yer ears bleed in the cabin.

Both the flowmaster and dynomax highlights are sound bytes from them on my ride.

MadTxn your R/T runs over 3,000 rpm at 90mph? My R/T does`nt run over 3,000rpm until 100mph i checked it to day on the way home from work. Mine runs 2,750 to 2,800 rpm`s at 90mph. I have the same muffler as Thrasher very pleased with it. I do`nt know what Thrasher has all done with his exhaust? If he removed the front muffler or not. But mine got much louder at higher rpm`s with the front muffler removed. I like it this way the best for my ride.

I don't know. I spend a good chunk of time over 100 too. when the road is straight an open, it just calls to me. It's a sickness.

I have the same sickness it`s called INTREPID R/T LEAD FOOT. All the way to the floor untill the drag limit of 150mph. Unless you have the Motor Sports ones then only to 115 mph Ha Ha Ha . Sorry Tharsher could not help my self.
