L-Intake: What are the benefits?

Pardon my stupidity, but I'm new to dodgeintrepid.net, as well as the whole performance upgrades thing. I have a '00 R/T which I would to give a better set of lungs(to start). Would an L-Intake accomplish this? What does it do, and what are the benefits?

So far, my mod's have been pretty basic: Xenon headlights, new head unit, amp and 10" sub. Full set of Pilot Alpins for winter too. It's time to get a bit brave......

Thanks in advance for your input.

well the L-Intake will give you 3 inches of tubing all the way to the throttle body, instead of the stock 2.5. It also eliminates the resinator giving your motor a deeper tone to it. If anything you will be making it for the sound of the engine, horsepower gains will not be crazy, mabe like 5 hp.

Follow that link above and see what the gains really are. You might be suprised!

Keep in mind, those gains are with the 68mm TB.

the peak horsepower may not be a huge difference but it does help with drivability. I installed my L_Intake, K+N filter and drilled my airbox at the same time and there is a power difference as well as the sound

K&N also makes an off road air charger kit. Fits the 3.5. No one around here has put it on an R/T though, only the base 2.7. Hope youre the first and welcome!

My K&N kit should be arriving early next week. I'll probably install it next weekend. I'm working up the courage to do the TB mod as well. I post with the results.

Thanks for all the input folks. I think I'll stick with the K&N Off-road kit. To me, the engine sounds sweet enough, and if it ain't broke........

Yeah do the K&N, check out my video for my 2.7L results, you'll be suprised....! I think it's adding about 15HP although K&N claims 27HP. Not to mention how mean it's allowed my engine to sound when I puch it and the 25 more miles per tank of gas I can drive. No one really beleived me of what type of performance increase I got so I made the video to show everyone. I think that most have the "L" intakes so they didn't expereience this much of an increase. The "L" intake still has to pull air upward through the filter box. I strongly beleive that the K&N Intake w/Heatshield performs much better although it's $229.00, it's worth it.

Take care guys

First off, the L_Intake was designed for the 3.2L and 3.5L intrepids and NOT for the 2.7L. Brian99 is the only person who has an L_Intake designed for the 2.7L by GR8WHT.

Second off, how do you know it performs much better without trying the L_Intake? Kind of impossible to do....

Last, it is true that the L_Intake has to get the air thru the filter box. GR8WHT had designed an L_Intake (Stage 2) that used a K&N cone filter and heat shield. Guess what? There was no gain over using the stock airbox.

As a lot of you know I was working on a an new version of the L_Intake (Stage 2) that would have used a Cone K&N Filter and heatshield, replacing the Stock Airbox setup that is now offered.
Well after fabricating one, complete with the shield and doing some test runs, this is what happened.

There is no gain to be had over using the Stage 1 intake. It seems the Stage 1 gives the 3.2/3.5L engine all the air it could want. 0-60 and 1/4 mile times did not change at all with the Stage 2 Intake. Cost is also a big issue if it had been worth it, but at over $300 it would not be cost effective.

So the deal is, Im staying with the Stage 1 system only, but I do recommend the K&N filter for the stock airbox. (when using the Stage 1)
Follow the link I posted above, that's where I got that quote.

If I'm not mistaken the K+N is a solid piece of plastic, the L_Intake is t-6061 aluminum covered with high temp PVC and all the bends are nitrile rubber

plus the fact that with the L_Intake you have a system that was handmade for your car in your choice of color

Finally, if you add the L_Intake and the K+N filtercharger prices together it is still cheaper than the K+N off road kit

I like the idea of a heatshield, but why bother if there are no performance gains

I can almost guarantee that my $35 intake mod gives just as much performance/sound as your $229 intake kit.

I like the look of "customized" L-intake over the K&N intake. The L-inake is cheaper also. But, you'd have to build the L-intake yourself (or con someone else into building one for you ). Performance should be about the same (around a 15hp gain).

Correct me if I'm wrong ..... please! The K&N system does NOT eliminate the 90 degree restriction that the factory TB hook up provides. Right? The part that actually mounts to the TB, right on it, is the factory piece. Right? THAT piece is the most restictive on the whole intake. Show me that I'm wrong, please! If K&N comes out with a system that does not remove that part, why bother. Sooooooo, they did eliminate it, right?
- about which is best, cheaper, louder, cooler looking ..... when the Lister Master made those few intakes THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE EVEN AVAILABLE!!!!!!!!!!! When Joekd made his, K&N was still thinking about actually selling theirs. Jeez, give some credit to the guys with the know how to do a 1st class job of shadetreeing. God knows I can't do that stuff so I rely on good buds to point me in the right direction. My $.02 US
