Intrepid Burnout???

this may be a bit of an odd question but it's better to ask than to remain ignorent, lol

Hi, i was curious if anyone has done a Burnout on their Intrepid or not.
I want to do that pretty bad, but afraid of blowing my tranny and whatever else may happend as well if done wrong. The reason why i'm asking this is because i was told that there's a Fuse that has to be removed prior to do a "Safe" burnout on an automatic car.
If so, which fuse should be removed, and how to properly execute it?

Whomever told you that bit of nonsense should have his/her head examined.

A burnout is strenuous mainly on the driveshafts, plus you won't ruin anything unless you do them time and time again.

Here is my method:

LHSer's Burn Out Method

1. Get front tires sufficiently wet with water. (Some use bleach for more smoke.)
2. Engage emergency brake to lock rear wheels.
3. Hold brake, bring RPMs up to about 3000
4. Dump brake, mash gas pedal.
5. Release e-brake while spinning.

Hope this works for you.

It wont hurt the tranny unless you do it all the time. Any auto tranny can be abused to death. A little water or just the little salt left on the road i can spin the tires like crazy on my R/T. At the track i stop in the burn out area and power brake to about 3,000 rpm`s. And just floor it i can get both tires spining untill smoke comes over both front fenders. The other racers love it they never see a Intrepid do big burn outs before. They think they are just family cars. Some times in the winter on salt covered roads when i hit second gear the left tire well burn rubber like in a corner of a on ramp. There is no fuse that i know of. Have fun just be carefull that no one is right next to the right side of the car. Mine some times well move over a foot or more because of the torque steering.

I do`nt know about LHSer, but i can but a little show on for you if the weather permits. Have not tried the braking brake trick yet. Just wet roads seem to do the job for my R/T. It would be great to get some photos of a couple of dual burn outs.

If I can get one going (its not hard) you sure will.

My e-brake doesn't work so well anymore, I think I have to use the old fashioned trick of tightening it, in other words, reverse at 15-20mph and slam on the brakes.

If it feels good, do it. You only live once. Just make sure that you are willing to sacrifice some tire wear. The tranny should be harmed. Now, if you do a neutral drop on the other hand, that's a different story.

Bleach, sounds cool but wouldn't that break down the rubber more rapidly with that type of friction?

hmmm, I never tried that....

Actually, we should have an Intrepid meet and see who could do the best burnout....??!! That would be cool...?

Well, if you haven't done a burn out before I suggest practicing on a fairly smooth paved surface (so you don't get chunks) and practice punching it from a stop or when slightly turning the way, you can usually spin the tires this way.

Don't know but the E-brake thing seems a little harsh to me but then again I've done some crazy stuff so I shouldn't talk.

My friend did the E-brake thing in his Honda CRX and it was funny! His car looked like a dog draggin' it's rear legs. It was just dragging the back wheels!

Just my thoughts on it.... Later....

UPDATE:
Oh shhht, just figured out what you might have meant by the fuse thing, makes sense now.... Some cars have built in traction control, perhaps that is automatic where you can't disable it.

If you have traction control, just press the button to where you seen "Trac Off" on your instrument panel. If you have an LH vehicle and it doesn't have this button you probably don't have traction control.

I was turning from one street to another. I dropped her into first upon turning and flooed it. I got a real nice burn out! On the corner of these two roads is a gas station. There was some guy gasing up his Mustang. Boy did I get his attention. I saw him look up and stare at me going down the road.

yeah my e brake is fucked from doing burnouts and 180s. 180s are a great way of getting rid of the 3 point turn, yet then if its dry pavement your rear tires take a beating. But sounds and looks amazing.

I haven't looked at the book on the Intrepid rear brakes, but usually the emergency brake is basically a drum brake arrangement inside the rear disc rotor. In this arrangement there is one or two brake shoes inside the rear disc rotor that bear against the inside of the rotor hub itself. Should be easy to fix -- I'd sure check the cable first since it could have just stretched, or become dislocated somewhere along its route. I doubt the brake shoe would be worn out, maybe just needs an adjustment or something simple like that.
