Question to all of you

Hey I'm a new owner of a 2002 Intrepid. Just wanted to know if you guys could drop me some info on where I can find mods for my intrepid. Got alot planned for it but I gotta take it one step at a time and I'm not sure where to start looking. If you could just point me in some directions it'd be much appreciated. Later

Welcome ForceOne! It's good to see someone else from Colorado on the forum. You picked the right place to get your questions answered, but you might not like what you are going to hear. There aren't many products available to us at this time. There are some parts, but for the most part you are going to have to experiment, and adapt. There are plenty of posts here to give you some ideas, but your first upgrade should be the intake.

There has been plenty of debate over which intake set-up you should use (K&n vs. homemade L-intake - see 2nd gen "Downloads"), but whichever you choose this will make a difference in power and sound. Exhaust system changes are also pretty common, and you can find plenty of info here on how to open up the trottlebody. Other products you might try include ignition system changes (MSD dis-4), chip changes, and turbo systems. No matter what you have to spend, your first up-grade should be the intake as it is easy, can be changed back (to avoid warrenty problems) and if nothing else, will make the car sound like it should.

Good Luck!!!

Dave

Would help us to know what engine you got as well. 3.5 or 2.7?

My bad. I meant to put some of that info down and forgot.
I'm running a 2.7 SE. I've been looking at the K&N Air intake system but with alot of different opinions I'm not sure about it yet. I've already got an appointment to have my intrepid looked at to see what I can do as far as getting a dual exhaust.
Do any of you know if a Ram Scoop hood is available for this guy? I'd definately like to look into that. Which will of course help with my decision on the Intake system. I guess one of the biggest things I am looking for is upping my horsepower. Money isn't a big thing but I'd like to get as much as possible for my money instead of just dropping it all on one or two things. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks

Hey, welcome..... My name is Brian "MoparPerformance" and I also have a 2002 Intrepid w/2.7L "SE". I am currently in the process of "Project Trep 2.7L". So far I have installed a K&N performance Intake and Dynomax Performance aftermarket exhaust. I think I could be puttin' out around 215-220HP right now and I will be dyno'ing soon and will share the results.

I am currently in the works of testing BOSCH Platinum 4+ spark plugs out for this engine. I will then soon later install an ASE chip after working with ASE to "tune it down" so I will only have more like a 10HP increase instead of the 22HP so there will be less stress on the engine.

I am hoping to have newer Chrysler PCM/TCM revisions flashed. I am also going to be installing R/T springs and stabalizer bar.

I hope to to get around 230-240HP out of it. I plan on taking it to the track against my dad's 4.6L Mustang GT, he'll beat me but I wanna go at it with him. I also hope to provide video footage of that and track times as well. My ultimate goal is to make this a mean fuel efficiant machine that can keep up with an R/T.

As far as the K&N Intake kit.... Here's a video you can download for you to see the results yourself and decide if you would want to go with it.

For best viewing, right click on the video link and select (Save Target As), and save it, then play it.

I think it sounds pretty raw w/some nice performance....

Those are the HP and torque figures to the wheels, not the flywheel.

I've been corrected on sears having a dyno... it seems to me that someone locally did though... when I find out who it is we'l be talking.

Re; above, I think he meant 271 HP. I didnt notice untill you mentioned it ... funny how we only look at the last two digits.

no those numbers are right. spook R/T used a chassis dyno which measure hp at the drive wheels. manufacturers use an engine dyno to measure hp output at the crankshaft. what this means is that the R/T loses 70hp roughly thru the slushbox and other driveline parts. it's over 30% loss.
