nice install site - I did all that you did except the hairdryer, and my darling wife and I worked about an hour to get it in place. You did a great job on the intake, the decals are a very nice touch, do you think underhood heat will bother them? I guess there are enough factory stickers that survive though. My intake is red and almost matches the car, so I think you did the right thing in picking silver.
thanks for the compliments Don, the decal shop I bought them from said they had never heard of an intake application like I was doing, but since they were high quality material that was designed to affix to the outside of car windows and have been tested in hot water car washes he really didn't think it would be a problem.
I'm glad you're wife is willing to help, mine just thinks I'm insane for ripping pieces off my new car
You should build your intake piece by piece like I did, not as much fun as doing it all at once and being done but it is the only way I had time to complete the project. Buy ALL the peices first (that way you are inspired to finish it and not just give up) and then work on it slowly. Cut the pieces one day, sand and paint the pvc..etc..etc
Winter is almost here, what better project to occupy your time?? As long as you can work a tape measure and a miter saw the assembly is easy.
Why go all the way to the throttle body? I understand getting rid of the flex-hose since it probably contributes to turbulence and cuts down on air velocity, but that big molded runner between the flex-hose and the throttle-body? Is it rough inside or something? Or maybe small inside diameter? I know you must have found something that merited removing it. Or was it just to get that kewl intake sound?
the factory tube that connects to the throttle body is probably the most restrictive piece on the whole assembly, it starts with a 3" opening and then is crimped until the end touching the thrttle body is about 1-3/4" at the narrow part, it looks like this
In my opinion if you don't replace this tube the rest of the intake tube won't really make a difference
