muffler sound comparison

ok, I originally had the flowmaster muffler 80 installed.... sounded great, just TOO damn loud in the cabin.

I brought it into the shop, they swappped it out for a Dynomax Super turbo. which sounds about stock inside the cabin as compared to the Flowmaster. heres recordings I took of each.

In my opinion, I think the dynomax sounds way better.

The Dynomax is definitely a lower tone. It's all about what sound you're looking for. For me the deeper the rumble the better. That said I'd pick the Dynomax.

The dynomax is close to stock with a little bit more of a rumble. I will wait until my stock ex blows out to replace.

Sounds good Thrasher. BTW, it's cool that they changed it for you without a hassel

Being the tight-wad that I am, I just took a shot in the dark and had my local muffler shop replace the big "can" muffler under the trunk with a straight pipe. I left the resonator at the tailpipe factory.

I've got nothing but compliments on how sweet it sounds. It's a little louder in the cabin, but outside, it sounds just right to me.

$18 bucks.

thats what i can get at work.
the dynomax series mufflers.
i was looking at a different model tho ...
i was checking at the ultra flo SS (stainless steel) series ones.
flow comparison chart shows 1000 cfm flow rate on the ultra flo ss compared to 410 cfm on the super turbo series.
i would assume that would make it a louder design ?
theres also the welded series mufflers with a flow rate of 1133 cfm. just have to see which one hurts my wallet most now ;)

I would have to say my preference is more with the FlowMasters. Of course I'm use to my Ford V8 with NO muffler growling....so I'm used to the noise.

I've got a neighbor with a new Durango R/T and I lust over the sound coming from the pipes every time they drive away. Listening to both of your picks, the closest to that sound is the Flowmaster 80. So my vote is leaning towards the Flowmaster. At least now I know what to put on when my stock muffler goes. Thanks for the recordings!

Just based on those recordings I'd *have* to go with the Flowmaster -- however I know that too much exhaust drone inside the cabin might be unbearable.

I just had a Flowmaster muffler installed this weekend, sounds great at about 2000 rpm.
I'm thinking of replacing the second muffler that's under the gas tank too, mignt sound even better.
