How to: Make shifter bezzel a different color

The proper way to do this mod is to use a soldering iron as well as heat shrink tubing and correctly route the wires. This is more of a proof of concept.

Step 1: Find a donor from the yard, and separate the backing from the shift position indicator strip.

Step 2: Drill suitable size holes for the LEDs. I used 5mm LEDs with resistors already pre-wired and glued them into the holes.

Step 3: Wire the LEDs to the factory switch.

Step 4: Insert into bezzel.

Finished product

I like that. They actually make blue EL sheets, I thought about getting a few and trying them

Nice man. Would be cool to get rid of the old stock green in mine.

Ah clever. I removed the EL sheet from the decorative face, and ended up creating a backlight from tin-foil and two LED's, worked but eventually fell apart with all the times I took the console apart.

Nice job and look. Is the black box/inverter needed for LEDs like it is for the EL?

Scarce911 is working on my shifter strip, but has gone a different path in doing it. When he becomes active again, maybe he'll chime in/post pictures of it.
