Need Help ASAP with Shifter Interlock Cable

Ok...when i installed me new A/s Shifter i found that I had a bracket in my car that i haven't seen in any other intrepid yet...is the shifter interlock cable shorter on cars with autostick? Well thats sorta irrelavant since i think i need a new shifter interlock cable since i think i broke mine...but i went to the yard to get one and didnt know how to remove it...now i see there is a clip on the steering coloumn and a yellow clip in the front...like i was pushing in the yellow clip and pushing down on the black clip (both are in on the steering wheel)...but nothing then i removed the clip thats on the shifter interlock cable near where it connects to the shifter assembly...this allowed me to pull out the cable at the steering wheel farther but it still didnt allow it to be completely separated from where it was connected at the steering wheel....i was reading the fsm and i dont seem to grasp what i need to do to remove this damn thing. Please help...

You need the key for the ignition to remove the interlock cable. If no key, remover the lock cylinder.

oh...lol well that would do it...ok now heres another question how do you line up or get that little clip with the "T" on it to go back into the shifter interlock cable? Because when i put the key in the ignition in cant get it out unless like i manually sqeeze the interlock cable and screw around with it to release the key...Because i think that once i get it to go back in I'll be ok cuz its the reason that i cant use my shifter interlock cable right now...like i removed the clip now i just need to know what position to have my key in the ignition and how to get the clip back in so i can reattach it.

If I remember correctly, you need to use the key again, in the "run" position to allow the plug to go back in properly.

Ok got the clip in but it still is giving me trouble basically the wire is not long enough on the bracket that i seem to only have and its too long if you place it on the plastic part that all the other intrepids seem to use...like my cable is almost twice the size as the other shifter interlock cables...like not that whole cable assembly just like that metal wire piece that has to two pieces of metal on the end...ok how hard is removing the key cylinder because ima just grab one from the junkyard...and replace it with the one in my car...

you are refering to the bracket on the shift mechanism I assume then?

If you have the shifter from a 1999 or 2000, they will not work in a 2001 &up car and vice versa. The interlock cables latch in differently

You need to disassemble the shift mechanism, and put the original bottom plate on the new shifter set up. They will interchange. Other alternative is to get the matching cable set up for the year of shift mechanism you are installing.

I have a 2001 shifter in my car and it works fine. You just need to follow the manual in removing and installing.

You need the cable that goes with the year the shift mechanism is, or as I said before, change the lower mounting plate. Just disassemble the shifters, and swap the lower plate.

Yea i did that...but the cable isnt long enough...for some reason...so what i want to do is go and get another cable...i want to get the shorter one since it will match up with the year of the shift mechanism but you were saying that the only way to do that is to remove the key cylinder since i dont have the keys...will i need any special tools to remove the key cylinder?

JUst the usual small metric and torx stuff, also a small pair of vice grips or some such, if I remember correctly, there are a couple of reverse torx bolts that need to come out, unless of course you have those small type sockets.

Ok read through the fsm on how to remove the key cyclinder and removing the shift interlock cable...

couple of questions:

1. What is the BTSI solenoid connector? where is it?
2. the Removal of the Key/lock cyclinder involves using the key and turning it to the run position...but i dont have the key...so what do i do?

Just remove all of the connectors on the steering column. You should be OK with out the key, as you are not removing the cylinder, you want to remove the whole assembly from the column. When you get it out, you will see a small tab at the end of the barrel that is in a corresponding slot. Use a small flat screw driver to push it in and release the cylinder.
