Clear corners

I am currently putting projectors into my headlights so I have them apart, and figured that I would do a couple of other mods while I have the headlight apart. One of them is the clear corners. I read the how to by Slewlis, but am unsure of a couple of things. The how to is written assuming the headlight is not taken apart. I was wondering if anybody else has done this mod? I am concerned that if I just try to break the amber piece I will damage the chrome piece of the headlight. Is the general theory that you just need to break the gleu that holds on the piece onto the unit? If so would it be better if I heated that chrome peice in the oven to soften the glue, or will that not work with this type of glue? I just figured that I would make a thread before I took the rist of damaging the whole piece.

If U look on the back of the chrome piece eight at the tip U will see a tiny orange tab. Pop that and just pry the orange thingy out it's the easiest thing if U have the headlight apart. Don't worry about fucking up the chrome piece it's really sturdy. I assume U took that out of the clear lense right bcs. the chrome molding comes out of the clear lense. Just bend it a bit so it comes out where the tabs are. BTW did U have difficulties melting the glue ?? The headlight glue on the treps is like caulking and I think it's heat resistant not like the other headlight where the glue softens up like gum. I had to pry the black plastic to get the lense out, bcs it softened more than the glue itself.

I was a lot tougher than I thought it would be to get into the headlight. I did crack the very edge of black peice in one spot. The glue did soften, but not a whole lot. I found that I needed to turn the heat up on the oven, and that seemed to help a little bit. I forgot that the heat needed to be higher because of my altitude. I did remove the piece from the lens of the headlight, but when I tinkered with the side marker it seemed to be on the chrome piece quite well. I did see the tab you are talking about. So I just need to remove that tab and then break the glue? Seems easy enough. Did you do anything to remove the leftover amber lens where the glue is. I was thinking that a sanding bit, and a lot of care, might be enough to remove all traces of the amber. By the way what did you use to seal the headlight back up. I figured silicone caulk would work. Have you had any condensation issues since?

Caleb: I have clear corners on my trep. Had them on since the beginning of this year or so. I used a weather seal to seal mine back up. I have had muliple issues with condensation in only one of the headlights. BUT ... I removed the headlight, threw it in the stove for 20 minutes at the lowest temp, and the condensation was sucked right out. I then TRIPLE resealed it all back up. No problems since.

Well triple resealing is maybe the problem. The headlight needs to breathe. If U look at it in the back the rubber thingies don't seal as good as silicone and yet there's no condensation in new headlamps. Sometimes the stuff that's used tor reseal the lense emmits vapors that cloud the lense up.

qp_20 my amber piece popped right out with no residue left whatsoever. There was no glue holding it , it was just pressed there . I haven't resealed the headlamp yet , need to aim projectors first fit shrouds and then will be thinking about that(I don't know how well silicone is going to stick to the lense and what if I have to open it again, silicone is heat resistant.) . Having a bit of a problem with clearance in the back, maybe some cutting of the metal behind the headlight is required, but we'll see.

True about the heat at altitude. The 190 temp was at 1000 ft. elevation.

I unded up using a temp of 280*. I popped out the corner, there was some residue, but I hit it with the dremmel, and then painted it with some high temp paint. I figure that I will have the projector in either tomorrow or friday. Now all I need is the other headlight so I can be done with this whole thing.

Yeah, I used a flat black. After looking around I decided that I was not going to fing a high temp gloss black. I was concerned about how it was going to look at first, but I think it came out very nicely. I did have the masking I used pull some of the chrome off, but not too much. I need to go get some different tape. There is a different kind of blue tape that is even less tacky so I am going to get that.

I know it is not that close, but I found it quickly. If you want it bigger look in his gallery and click on it a few times and it will get very large. Also you can look in the second gen how to section and there is a write up by Slewis, and there is a large extreme close up. When I finish the headlights I will have lots of pictures for a how to so I will have one of mine.

Are U retrofitting projectors or Ur just making clear corners ???? Why did U paint the inside reflector black ???? And what part did U paint ??? Just wondering bcs It works out very good with the reflectors as they are if Ur doing a retrofit. They hide most part of the projector, and a shroud will take care of the rest. Now the aiming and the back clearance is what I'm worried about and I'm not closing the headlight up unless the beam pattern is perfect.
Trial and error it's what's about....

I painted the front peice black, well most of it anyway. I left the turn signal area chrome, but I painted the rest black. THe chrome piece that the headlights are in has been left untouched. I might do some painting on that part as well just to tie it in, but the area where the lights are will remain chrome. I am retrofitting projectors, but I wanted to do some other stuff while the headlight is apart. I do agree that the projector will take up most of the low beam area, but the projector I am using is huge! What exactly is it that you are having trouble with? If you mount the projector in the housing straight you should be able to use the stock alignmet screws to aim the beam. What about the beam parrern are you having trouble with?
