Thinking of puting Autostick in 98 2.7

I can get a shifter, cluster, and TCM from my local wreckers from a 98 3.2. I want to put this in my 98 2.7. My questions are:

- I have read that there is only one TCM for 98 Intrepids with Autostick, part # 4606082AK no matter what engine
- will a chrysler scan tool be able to reprogram the TCM for 2.7 gears? I have read it could be done but has anybody had it done?
- I haven't been able to find a clear discription of the wiring that needs to be done to complete this intall, any help here?
- what exactly should I be scrounging from this parts car, I can think of the cluster, TCM, and shifter, anything else?

Thanks in advance for you help!
Adam

I'm doing the same thing to my 2001 SE. I got the 300m gauges today and will hopefully be getting the shifter and TCM this week. I've found that the info on this subject is here, but very fragmented. I still have yet to get a positive answer as to the TCM being able to be recalibrated. I really want the answer to that. Some say that the VIN's don't match the car so they are unable to change the pinion ratio or flash and reprogram. As for the 98 specific question...that I don't know. Let me know if you find out anything about the pinion recalibration. Good luck.

I did it to my 2000 2.7 just bought a 00shifter and 00gauges had a leather boot around the old shifter. Just tied the autostick in at TCM like I read on a thead (thanks)it worked like a deam it was worth all the trouble and so glad I couln't find a enabled TCM at the time. (saved money)you might not have to deal with that problem at all. But I think in 00 they had the option from the factory on the es w/autostick that you could get a 2.7 in.

Oscar, so your saying you did not replace the TCM? Where did you tie into the TCM at?
Did you have a 2000 ES without autostick or was it an SE. Please let us know. Now I'm even more confused.

its a 2000 base no autostick floorshifter and I tied in at the main plug on the TCM LG/RD pin #5 upshift and YL/LB pin #44 downshift just got the power from the cig.liter in the book the autostick shows only a 10a fuse so you should be fine to do that too. I would try it with your stock TCM and mabe you could save money and then all your computers TCM,BCM,and PCM will match vin, milage and ratio. all the gears displayed and no check lights. just make shure that if your car has trac. control or abs the new gauges have the same so you don't get check light. Hope this helps.

Yes, you have convinced me to try it with my stock TCM first. This should be possible. Thats all you have to do with the same year Sebrings/Stratus with 2.7s. Your car sounds exactly like mine. I don't think the 2000-2001 makes much of a difference. I am putting 300m gauges in though. From what it sounds like you put in Intrepid gauges with autostick. Is that right. My 300m gauges are the same year as my Intrepid. Don't know if that matters. You had no check lights! That rocks.

Anyone else have any comments on this? Has anyone else besides oscar done the switch with their stock 2.7 TCM? I know I'm going to try it, can't hurt.

Thats what I'm saying. Hell it works on the Strats, why not the Treps. I'm going to try it here in the near future. I'll post how it goes.

I have found out that the TCM can be flashed, and if you think about it, it's kind of obvious.
Say your TCM fried and the dealer ordered a new one, there is only one part # for autostick in 98, no matter what engine, (i'm not sure of the other years) so they would have to flash it or it wouldn't know what it was in really.

You use the DRBIII scan tool to do a "quick learn", which lets the TCM learn all the characteristics of the vehicle and calibrate itself.

To all future autostick modders who may be reading this.

YOU MUST HAVE AN AUTOSTICK ENABLED TCM FOR THE AUTOSTICK FUNCTION TO WORK.

That is all. Please refer to other threads on how to convert to autostick.

And yes, you could "delete" the 3.2 from early ESs and get the 2.7, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms.....
