Should I replace the cat?

I want to replace my exhaust on my Intrepid that has a little over 100,000 miles on it. Now should I replace the cat at the same time since it could be getting cloged since of the hight miles. Rockauto wants around $200 for new one but are their any alterantives that are cheaper and are a direct bolt on since I dont want to do any welding. What are my options for the cat?

Thanks You.

If the cat is clogged not only will you smell it... but you should get a check engine light too.

LOL! Like the song on Friends: "Smelly cat - it's not your fault - what have they been feeding you?..."

These cars have metal matrix cats, so it is very unlikely to get 'clogged'

You are correct. Pop the hood... look down on each side. Some shops won't do cat work... due to emissions and other crap like that.

Cat

So you saying I should just replace the exhaust. How do I know if needs to be replaced? Does the ceramic turn black or what happens.

When you say exhaust... what are you referring to? The car's entire exhaust system or what? Read my first post in this thread... that will help you out. (referring to when the cats go bad)

Why do you want to replace the exhaust? Just because it has high miles on it? Because you want something that sounds different? Because it is full of holes and sounds like ass?

Crombie addressed the CAT question. We just need an understanding of why you want to replace the exhaust.

Replace Cat

I just need to replace the exhaust from the cat going back. The rear muffler and pipe are rusted the muffler is starting to develop a leak. Also the rear resonator (I think thats what its called) is not in a better shape either. If you options are keep the cat and replace the rest with a nice dual system then thats what Ill do. (Dual is Nice)
