Newbie with pretty much everything

I just moved to Toronto from Sweden and had to buy a car, I decided to buy an Intrepid 2001 SE with the 2,7l engine. I have some picture on it on pettan.blogg.se if you have to see it. (Iw done a eng cleaning since that pictures.) I must say I like it... alot of car for the bucks! big and safety is a major issue I think and this car suits me well, with this I can smash the pathetic honda civic teenagers headon and suck the pieces up and spit it out the exhaust. ok sorry thats a bit over the top.

This is my 4th car but there my skill of cars end, I cant do any mechanics like all the people here seem to be able to do. I can maintain the car thats it, and thats what I do. I lub my Intrepid.

I got alot of questions, newbie questions so quit reading of you dont want to have your eyes bleeding.

I cant find any specs of the car, please provide them. heck I dont even know how many HP.

Do you have any advice on what I should do to the car, it has gone 140000km. Sadly no service record, ok back in sweden I would never have bought a car without a service record but it seems like this is more the custom over here? Anyway the mechanics of the car is realy good, I would guess it has been a highway car and the milage have passed realivly easy trough the car.

What Eng tuning can you recomend, most bang for the bucks. Is Chip-tuning something you would recomend? Also my mexican roommate that is a mechanic said there is a small turbo in this car, is that correct?

The 2.7L has 200HP and sorry to say, no turbo. From everything I have read, you want to use synthetics instead of traditional oil. 2.7L engines have a history of building up sludge. Maybe some of the other guys here can give you a bit more info on the 2.7L.

yea Iw been thinking of making an oilchange, but the oil on the stick realy looks good and it could aswell already be syntetic, there is a picture of the oil on pettan.blogg.se, can you make anything out of that pic?

Welcome to the site.
With the 2.7L engine I would switch to a full syntetic oil like mobil1.
But, you need to do it carefully, since you don't want to dislodge big chunks of sludge that maybe in the engine.
I would recommend 2 oil changes at 1500 mile apart, with a semi syntetic, like casteroil, and then switch over to the full syntetic, mobil1.
Change it ever 3000-4000 miles max(even though syntetics can run to 6000, I wouldn't recommend it with the 2.7L).
Since it's a 2001 2.7L egine most of the orgional 98 2.8L engine problems have been corrected, so you should have a goood 2.7L. I don't know what corrections they made each year on that 2.7L. But most of them , I think, were done between 98-01, then a couple more in 02, and from there I don't know if they did any more.
You may only need to add a couple of parts to that engine, if you want, to bring it up to date with all of the corrections needed.
The most inportat thing is making sure you change the oil and getting it cchanged over to a full synthetic soon.
So just do the oil changes and you should be fine, for the most part.
A cooling system flush would be good, plus a differential fluid change and transmission fliud and filter change, and then a flush(first do a transmission and filter change, then the flush). Make sure they use ATF-4(not ATF-3), for the transmission fluid.

That's my advice.
I am sure there are other maintenance checks , etc., that you may also need to do with a car over 100000. Transmissions in dodges and chryslers seam to go at about 150000, I believe, unless you take precautions to save them.
So that's just a heads up to look out for.

Welcome to the site. I also have a 2.7 but it's a 2000. i'm finaly doing some mods on it and have some web sites if you want them. haven't had no major problem and it's going to 89,000 miles. hope to see more on your progress
