Question will a 02 engine work with the 98 trep by changing wiring harness?

Hey guys, as some of you know I am replacing the treps engine, and so far we are going to be getting a 2.7 from a 2002 intrepid but the problem is that I have seen on hypnos post that the wiring harness is diffrent than the 98-01 models. So my question is if i can make the 02's 2.7 engine work with the 98 trep by just swhiching the wiring harness? I still have the harness from the old engine and all the sensors, as well as most of the engine exept the pistons which i just threw away.

Thank you.

Use your old harness. You'll need to swap a couple other things as well...Read these threads:

Another 2.7 swap thread

any reason you dont want to get a 3.5? more reliable, and usually cheaper.

Yes there are two reasons
1.) because the ehxaust has to be cut back and i can't weld metal and don't know anyone who can.

2.) we can't really chose to get a 3.2 or 3.5 because we are not going to be getting the engine. My dads friend gets crashed or damaged cars and can buy a trep for really cheap, so we can get the engine for cheap.

Yes. It has "windows" that the Crank sensor reads from. If you look at them side by side, you'll be able to see the difference. You may also have to change the knock sensor, which is a pain to get to.

I agree about the 3.2/3.5 swap...a little more labor intensive that I wanted to deal with, really, but the main reason I stuck with the 2.7 is that I found one that was quite a bit cheaper than the 3.2's I was finding. Yeah...I was lucky!

I didn't read the links posted by in2deep - but I know there is a difference in the camshaft sensor (actually the number of slots or teeth on the gear) so you need to use the gear off the 98; or at least find a thread here that references the issue.

Yep...that's the reluctor that is spoken about in the other threads. Very important part of the swap!
