Installing a remote start

Hey, i did a search and read a few threads on this, but i am still looking for help. I was thinking about installing a remote start in my Grandma's 2003 intrepid ES, and my wifes 99 corde. How difficult is it to install? Any wire cutting, or just plugging in special harnesses? I really don't want to spend too much, are the ones from walmart for like $40 crap? Any suggestions, or links would be great!
thanks,

Brian

Try going HERE. I bought one of these a few years ago for my Spirit and they're a snap for a do-it-yourselfer.

Could someone please tell me where I can pick up a tack signal for my 1999 Intrepid ES?

I have been looking for the tan/stripe as menitoned in this post for a tach signal but no luck so far. Is it tan with what color stripe?

Thanks to all for the help.

I spent $ 100 Cdn at crappy tire, and another 90 to have it installed. I am adept enough to install one but by getting them to do it I saved myself the frustration and it gave me a 3 year warantee because they installed it.
They all come with pretty simple instructions, but can be a pain to install. Plan at least a day on the weekend for each car, maybe two depending on your ability.
Do a good thorough job. Nothing sucks like an electrical fire behind the dash!

Cheers

BJ

I have done a number of these installs all with no problems. I work in the electrical feild and am fully quailifed to do the install. I just need to know where to pick up the tack. The last remote starter I installed sensed the change in voltage to verify the engine started, which I really liked as it was an easy install.

Thanks for your concerns, and for your help all.

That's what I ended up doing...having it installed! And...I liked their warrantee better than mine, plus, they'll remove it for free if & when I trade-in or sell my car. I have installed alarms/remote starters in the past, like the ones from Slickcar.com on my Turbo Spirit and they were a snap, plus I wasn't out much if somewhere down the line, part(s) failed. The one I had installed is a Viper 771XV, which is pretty pricey and not something that I want to eat if it fails! Now, I have to take my car back this Wednesday AM because I have nearly no range....and I mean nearly no range! 100 feet away, nothing; 50 feet away, nothing. Standing in front of my car...maybe! I thought it might have been a dead battery, so, I replaced it. Oh, the hell with it, let them worry about it! I'll worry about it after if they don't correct it!!

Ive never installed my alarm/starter. but wanted to share that it was the best thing i did. the alarm is a pager alarm with starter, range is about 2500 feet. Pages me if alarm has been triggered. So far ive just caught kids playing around the car and the ball hit it.

Maybe the antenna in the car fell down behind the metal structure?
Rf doesn't travel through metal very well.
Or, maybe the anenna lead came out of the module.

good luck
