INFO: Police centre caps

I went and picked up a set of rims from the wreckers yesterday. $35 each for four First Gen rims that look just like the cop wheels. It's funny that they were the only four they had and were from four different cars, 2 are from 96 LHS's 1 is from a 96 Concord and one is from a 94 New Yorker

Earlier this week I got my parts guy to order one cop centre cap and one "special" cop lug nut. The cap was $30 CND and the lug nuts go for around $3 each.... OUCH!!! I just ordered one of each to see what was so special about the nut.

Here are pics of the front and back of the cap and a pic of the nut.

As you can see the cop nut has a shoulder on the bottom to hold on the cap.
Now I'm not ready to spend 60 plus dollars on these nuts so if anybody has any suggestions, I'm open to them!

There has been talk that these caps won't fit on stock steelies, Here is a pic of the cap on the LHS rim and on the stock rim from my car. It would fit both if you had the nuts to hold them on, although it looks kinda dumb in my opinion on the stock rim....

As it stands, I'm just going slap a fresh coat of paint on the new LHS rims, put some chrome lugs on and run them as they are for the winter, mabey with some chrome trim rings, unless a soulution can be found for mounting the caps, other then spending a shitload of cash on some little lug nuts.

I just thought I would post these pics and info to help out anyone considering the cop wheel idea for winter, and to help people from getting ripped. I've seen people trying to sell used caps for $100 US when you can order them brand new from the dealer for the same price, and pay no shipping.

Parts Numbers:

Police Centre Cap: 4782792AA
Police Lug Nut: 6507498AA

..

Wretched, I'm glad to find someone who is interested in the police rims also. I noticed that you have a 98 Intrepid. Will the rims fit? The reason I'm saying is according to specifications the rims are only good for up to a 1997, but I guess they're wrong. I have a 98 Concorde and I hate my rims. I'm assuming these same rims would fit on my car?

Thx & Cheers.

They fit fine, Bolt circle, size and offset are all exactly the same.
There is a thread around here that lists the sizes of all the lh rims.

Are you sure those are generic 1st gen rims and not the actual cop rim?

I've never seen a 1st gen with those wheels from the factory, plus you mentioned the place only had 4 of those despite many 1st gens. I am almost positive you got the actual police rims.

I agree, they look exactly (or damn close to) like what REVENGE had up until I bought the Venti V56 wheels.

As for the lugnuts, I should've kept mine...

I only looked for these after reading on this board about first gens having these wheels. And as for them being from 4 different cars, I figured out it is because they were all full size spares, I never had to paint any of them after all, once I wiped them down, they all looked brand new.

Also there is a first gen Concorde down the street from me missing a hubcap, and you can see it has these rims on it.

Weird. Look at Scar's sig, those 1st gen rims certainly looks nowhere close to the police rims.

There is more then one kind of steel wheel on first gen's.

Go to car-part.com and search for a steel wheel for a 96 LHS. Search with images and you will see, as one of the options, this 5-hole steel wheel.

Maybe LHS specific?

I've seen a LOT of stock 2st gen intrepids and none of them have those wheels.

It's not LHS specific, do the search, the first page is almost all Intrepids, and there is also like 40 pages of results, so they are not that rare, and are priced as low as $15.

And as I said, on my car "2 are from 96 LHS's 1 is from a 96 Concord and one is from a 94 New Yorker" I eventually got 4 caps and the lug nuts from Ern, the member on here who was parting out a cruiser, and some crome rings from crappy tire for them also. I can't wait to get the ES rims back on though, damn salt and snow!
