24 LED 3rd Brake Light Pics & How-To

This is a mod i have been planning on for a long time now. Had a weekend when i was leaving the car behind so decided to go through with it. Took the center section with me and knocked it out in a couple hours.
I added 16 5mm red LED lights to the center section. When i get the 2 stock bulbs changed to LED, that'll make 18.
Here's how:
Started out by taping off the rear and marking evenly
where i wanted the LED lights. This was probably the hardest part b/c i had to make sure the lights were evenly spaced across the width.

Once i had it marked out correctly, i used a small drill bit to run pilot holes for the larger bit. This part i actually did with my hand, just spinning the bit between my fingers to make sure it stayed on the mark.

Once i had all the pilots done, i moved up to the 1/4" bit. This size was perfect for the holders b/c when i pushed the LED's in they were tight enough to hold themselves in place.

Inserted the LED holders, then the lights.

Touched off each one with a dab of silicone to seal them in place and keep any moisture out. Once that dried, of course i had to "test fire" them to make sure it was right.

Finished product back on the car. It'll really look finished when i get the stock locations switched over to LED as well. I'm planning on using (2) 4 LED 194 bulbs which will bring the total to 24.

I was going to ask those same questions, so I'll just say...

Yeah,...what he said.

That looks awesome...
Now, integrate the turn signals and have them work sequentially....
That would rock!!!

Thanks all.
Found the LED's on Ebay. Already prewired to work from 12-18v with 12" leads already on them. They're 5mm LED's, not sure on any other technical specs. They are really bright, that's for sure. Especially seeing that they're lighting through a few layers of Niteshades.
The LED holders i bought at Radio Shack and is something they have in stock pretty readily.
They are wired to the 3rd brake light only. Wanted it to be very obvious when i am braking. Just tapped into the existing wiring with some weatherproof quick disconnects so i can still pull the part if needed.
If someone knows how i can sequence them, fill me in.
Looked at the ones for the new 'Stangs and the kit is like $180. Little more than what i want to spend.
Loving the mod though. Now i have to back in to my spot at work b/c i park in front of the glass and can see it in the reflection.

Sequential would be awsome. I thought about splitting mine to where half goes on with the left blinker and the other half with the right blinker...at least that way there is no excuse for the person in the back not to see I am turning.

Man. I have been toying with doing something like that for some time. Seeing actual pics of the end result just motivates me to finally do it. That looks sweet!

I did a mod simular to my 300M tail lights, that would probably work on your lights as well. Shows two strips behind the reflectors. Shows them lighted up day time.

Welcome to the LED Reflector Bar club! The spacing (far apart!) has to grow on me, but otherwise, nice work! Here's the back side of mine part way through assembly with 33 LED's on each side...

Without seeing the final product, I have to say that looks insane. Are you done with it yet? Got other pics of it lit up? I'll probably eat my own words after seeing the final product.
