Advisory - 300M door panels Mod

For those who have not gotten 300M door panels and may be considering getting them here a few things I did not know or maybe missed the posts about them.

1. Front skins will fit without problems unless you have sail speakers from something other than a 300M. But the door skins do sit a little higher than the dash.

2. Back skins will have to be modified - TFC has completed a how-to
also on the back doors the metal rod will need to be shorten for the 300M panels.

Anyone else feel free to add or correct anything that needs to be completed prior to changing from Trep door panels to 300M door panels.

BTW R0meo021 thanks for getting these for me. I should have the back ones modified sometime this week and I will give you a call when the Treps ones are ready for you to pick up.

Yeah the rod has to be shortened or bent, there is not a how-to on rod modification but TFC did a mod on how the door panel needs to be modded.

I do not have the link as I just downloaded it to my thumb drive as I do with all the how-to that I am working on. You can try contacting TFC or if you give me your email address I can email it to you in the morning.

R0meo021 I am going to try and get it completed tomorrow evening so that I can get you the panels by Wednesday.

I just copy and pasted the instructions I got from Ross into a how-to on the 2G how-to page but it has to be approved which may take awhile.

Kris I have sent you a copy of the word doc with the instructions. I will try to take some pics of my panels as I mod them and put them in the how-to.

Here is a copy of the PM I sent Keith on the door release rod modification:

The problem is that the Trep ones are too long; the 300M are too short. Your only choice is to shorten the Trep ones.
It is trial and error sort of: place the door panel in position, but not over the ledge - with the back top edge where it will go, and the lower screw holes lined up across the bottom. Put in a couple of screws a few turns so as to keep the panel in place. Then gently tilt the top towards you so you can see the rod and the mating hole in the handle.
Mark that spot on the rod with a marker or tape, so you get the exact spot to bend the rod.
You need to get the bend as close to the factory bend as possible. I remove the rod & put it in a vice at the bend position the whack it with a hammer to get a nice bend. You need to be pretty close - 1/4 " either way, or the rod will either pull the handle outwards or will jam. Best to make it a tad too long, you can put a kink in the rod to shorten it slightly if necessary.
If you can get a set of rods from a yard to play with, so much the better.

goal - have one of my parts on every DI car:biggrinfl
Honoured to be January 2007 COTM.THANK YOU ALL.

Thanks again Ross. I just need to cut and modify the door panels now. I was able to bend the door rod into an S shape and have it work (I think it will anyway) but I still have to modify the panel first (do not want to destroy the panel). So I am going to attempt to get that done today if my on-call schedule will allow me time to get it done.
