Taillight mod!!

It took me upwards 8 hours to get the left taillens to how it is now. The glue I'm using is Sikaflex 1a. I cannot continue on this lens until the glue sets. It sets in 24 hours, and dries in a week. The only way to take this shit off is by mechanical means only, and even then, it's still a bitch.
There is some left on my hands after washing them, they remained sticky in the water and still are sticky. >>: )

I currently have 2 massive books leaning on the pointed end of the lens, and 2 others atop of the lens to keep the lexan flat.

What are you trying to achieve , clear lenses ???? If so then yes it will work, but I would have painted the reflectors in anodized(you know the mirrored finish) red and yellow in the turn signal bcs I don't think that chrome paint is good enough. Why didn't you try going the LED way ?

Yeah, Clear lens much like the first GENs...I have white LEDs with the stock taillens now. The chrome on the inside is the same as the first gens if I'm right. Either way, when the LEDs come on, you will notice them.

That's another issue....after having clear tails I think the light bar would look out of place unless you clear that out too or paint it to match the car. I don't know I really like the way my tails look stock, only mod I would think of doing would be a custom LED setup in PCB board not the LED bulbs they sell on egay, something really bright and have the light bar lit up too.....ahhh so many ideas and so little time.

Huh...I can't really say until I see the finished piece... I'll reserve my comment on it's current state.

I agree, the center bar would be out of place. I just got a torch to speed things up, I know to be careful, plastic like plexiglass/lexan does bubble if too hot.

The lexan sheet I have for the other tail, is just wide enough to also do the center bar, a whole 2 inches longer.

My job on cutting is a little fucked up, because it's far too easy to break the reinforced dremel cutting discs. You can try with plexiglass if that is to your liking.

When I bend and cut the first lens, I will pop it in and take a picture.

Forgot to mention...Yes, I will use Nite-Shades or some black paint that can be used outdoors covering the glue.

Cancel the bending...that's gonna be a bitch to do. Since the housing follows underneath the red lens (toward fender/trunk) I may just cut off the excess and let it be for now.

Damn, I thought the hard shit was over with...

TERMINATOR : This is about as good as I can get it, showing the most and showing the least amount of glue.

I think it would look better if you could find a way to secure the lense without visible glue spots.

Without prismatic red reflectors on each corner; those things are illegal. Perhaps legality would be a good thing, unless you don't plan on using them :p

It varies from state to state if I'm right. My first gen. didn't have any prismatic (much like many others) and I never got a ticket. I'm sure that as long as a red light shows up when you hit the brakes, it's okay.

As for the glue, I'm going to paint over it. That will have to wait until the rain stops.

True, it varies from state to state (or province)

From the pics I've seen, could you not attach a plastic dowel to the backside of the lense, then drill coresponding holes into the face of the housing? Then either screw or glue the dowel or pin in? If that makes any sense :p

I'm lost 02R/T.

This should be okay. If not, I still have the stocks to fall back on.
