Now that we've gotten that out of the way.....
I just recieved a 300M cluster from a fellow member. We thought everything was going to be kosher as my Intrepid is a 2000 and the 300 cluster is an AA part number.
Well, turns out my 2000 must be a late 2000 or something, as the cluster has an AG part number indicating a later model cluster. From what I can gather off the forums, they changed in 01. No fault of the fine gentleman who sold me the 300 m gauges.
This thread will follow my saga to swap the 300m guages into the Intrepid circuit board (called cb from here on).
Progress so far:
the Intrepid cb has 194 bulbs in it for illumination. These are regulated directly by the potentiometer in the light switch itself.
The "indiglo" guages operate on ac current, from about 24 vac up to 74 vac depending on switch position. In order to do this a transformer (probably more correctly called an inverter) is incorporated into the circuit to change the 12v reference signal from the switch to vac to run the lighting on the guages.
There are 6 contacts on the transformer. What I can only assume is output vac to the guages (makes sense as that's where they go), 12v input and ground and 2 left for the reference circuit from the rheostat for dimming the lights.
So far I have identified the output vac circuits (pretty easy, they're marked on the board) and what appears to be the ground and 12v input.
The transformer has been desoldiered from the board and metering is now commencing. Circuits soon to be identified.
Ultimately the inverter will not be attached to the Intrepid board other than to keep it from bouncing around. the structure of the printed circuits do not permit attaching the contacts directly to the cb, but a series of jumper wires will be needed. I may pretty it up a bit with a ribbon cable just for personal satisfaction as you'll never see it in the dash.
More work with the fluke is required, but I think I am on the way to being able to swap the 300 faces onto my stock gauge cluster, thus side stepping the idiot light issue (abs trac airbag, etc). Besides, removing bulbs, led's and tapping ove the segements just seems wrong to me. I'm looking for a more functional solution. Yes I know I could get a matching cluster, but you still have to deal with the abs trac lights or find a dealer who is willing to reprogram the cluster for you. This will allow anyone who is halfway skilled with an iron to make the swap and have everything functioning as it should.

I have metered 5vdc across the grey and pink/black stripe wires
The purple and purple striped wires apparently have no voltage present which does not make alot of sense as they appear to be the reference wires for dimming.
