column shifter change

hi im on my second day on this forum and i must say that ive found so many answers already, you guys are doing a great job here.

ohk now that the praise is done heres my question. i have a 02 2.7L ES, it has a columb shifter, and i would really like to have a floor shifter, is there anyway that this can be done and if it is, is it almost not even worth the trouble to do it?

Yes you can do this you just need to get the parts. Most commonly you will need the 300 m cluster and Auto stick setup. I actually plan on it

Did you mean to say you had an 02 2.7L SE? As far as I know all the 02 ES had a 3.5L and came with Autostick. You can get an 02 Intrepid cluster with Autostick instead of the 300m one..and it might be a little cheaper/easier to find. You'll need the floor shifter/cable and center console along with the side console panels that meet up with the dash and some dash pieces to make it work. Also unless you swap out your front bench seat to buckets...you'll need to do some very custom mods on the center console to get it to remotely look like it belongs in there.
Cloth buckets can be found cheap and the console/shifter/bezel can be found cheap also. You'll need an 02 Instrument cluster whether you go with a 300m or Intrepid type.

wow thanks for the info, its an ES 2.7, i do have the bench seats tho. so basically i need to change my bench seats to buckets cloth/leather, and then get an auto stick assembly, a new center consol...and thats it right? also im going to need to do some mechanical mods (duh right lol) but the column shifter will it just be able to be removed, or will i need a new steering wheel assembly?

Here's a thread that has some good info on what you want to do. There's also someone in there that has actually done the conversion. You might want to shoot him a PM and introduce yourself and see if he'll answer questions you have. It contains some good info as far as part numbers, etc. Probably the best mod you can do for one of the "Rental" Intrepids(most of the bench seat models were sold to rental car companies).

All the column shifters I've known of are 2.7L SE Rentals. And I've rented a number of them from 1999-2003!! Not saying it's impossible..just haven't heard of it yet. What do you have on the trunk lid in the top right corner? Maybe someone was playing around and swapped the "E" and the "S" around? Ryan has an 02 ES and it has the 3.5 just like the R/T. Best bet is to run the VIN # to see what it is. Only ES models that came with a 2.7L are the 1998-2000 which were the base ES. Does your car have foglights in the front bumper?
