Exhaust questions (no not stupid same old shit)

So all this talking has gotten me excited. I know its not going to happen for probably a year, but I want to look into how much my exhaust is going to run me. I also need help finding where to get what I want.

To replace the first resonator I wanted to go with a Dynomax like I saw someone on here had a while back. I beileve he said it was a SS glasspack? I was surfing their site and notice everything like that is one in 2 out. Can you just get one of those and turn it around and have that hook up to a single 3in pipe to run back?

Don't worry, I plan on copying the M special layout to get that little extra out of it.

I also am looking into a flowmaster 80, by far my favorite sound. Problem is there are several versions. Which one should I go for on the Intrepid?

Lastly, Tips. I want some 2.5in in 3.5in out tips with a rolled edge and either a 15 or 30 degree angle. Either that or 2.5in in 3in x2 out tips same rolled edge. Problem is there are so many places with tips out there, some redard expensive. There is no flow difference with fuckin tips, so as long as its the right look then who gives a shit right?

Put in your vote to go with two single tips or two double tips. Post pictures of your setup (or someone else's) to go with your opinion.

My car won't ever be done because I'm insane. That is all.

The tips may range in price due to the quality and the material it is made from. Each of my tips were like $65, but they are a high quality stainless steel. Living where you live where you have to deal with winter and all that salt, I would suggest getting stainless steel also.

My current setup is a single-in/dual-out Flo~Pro V-Force. The front resonator is still there but the rear resonator and factory muffler were removed. All the parts and labor cost me $400.

Here is a pic of the rear. Thinking about it now I should have had them space the tips more to the side. But oh well.

do you ever have an issue with the tips bottoming out?

I was wondering, because i seem to have an issue every once in a while, and my car isint lowered yet.

Only a couple of times, but I was going too fast up a steep incline. It really hasn't been an issue. I bottom out the front air dam much more often than the exhaust tips.

I think my problem was mostly i was looking at shity places to buy them from so the prices were crap. After looking at your picture, i think I'm going to lean towards just the single tips. I also think it would look better if they were mounted back more so that they don't stick out from the bumper. I'll definately tape my tips to the underside of the car in different spots to look at where I want them to be mounted.

I still don't know whether I'd go stainless or chrome, but probably stainless.

I'm kinda debating just taking out the first resonator. I won't mind exhaust noise and it would save me a lot of money. I could just leave it there and take it out later if I feel like it.

300M Special exhaust (less the front resonator)...

- well engineered
- quality materials
- bolt on
- looks good
- sounds great
- CHEAP (relative to custom)

That pic from the rear makes it look like it sticks out more than it actually does. I was debating between the single and the dual. I went with the dual because most people go with the single and I like being different.

I also kept the front resonator to make the install more simple and less costly.

I can never seem to get a decent pic of my tips........I have 4" round slant cut rolled edge Magnaflow tips on my Flowmaster 80 exhaust. Here's a couple pics from a couple years back:

Fuck putting on a special exhaust, its still made to keep the car quiet, not to unleash its sound and is cirtainly not the best exhaust for the car. Yes its good, but if you plan on upgrading more than just exhaust then its not ideal. I'm at minimum going to have the intake, intake spacer, and exhaust and most likely also a bored tb. Eventually when I can afford to do it I'll do a KB chip too. Those all together will complement each other and make a custom exhaust worth it IMO. Not to mention how sweet a flowmaster 80 sounds.

I did mine for the sound and looks, not for performance. If I got anything performance wise out of it, that's a bonus. I gotta say, the Intrepid sounds like a beast driving down the road. It was great for a while, but now I'm happy I'm driving the silent Civic. Starting to miss the beastly sounding Intrepid though.

Very true avenger, I want the sound mostly out of this. Preformance is something that I care about but just for the fun factor of driving.

well i've got basically what you said you wanted, a single-in dual-out Flowmaster 80 replacing the rear resonator under the backseat, and i totally love it
not too loud for me, not soft at all, and it seriously "gives my car the sound of a muscle car/small V8" (and that was a quote from the exhaust guy, who does exhausts everyday for all sorts of really awesome cars)

anyway, a couple weeks ago SilverSpecial and IS300M came out here to my part of MA and we shot some vids with SilverSpecial's digital camera
the videos themselves are not the greatest, as it was a little too dark when we shot them, but you can clearly hear my exhaust

the first is of me taking off

the second, a flyby with the car in autostick mode (i think i was in 2nd, honestly dont remember)

We have to have another meet so I can check out your exhaust Ryan. Yours is very close to what I was thinking about doing. I listened to Ozzy's magnaflow and Barto's FM 40 series and both were different and nice in their own way. I need to hear a third option to compare before I dish out any cash.

Sneke yes I have heard clips of basically the same deal before and thats just about what I want, but I wouldn't mind some more too it though. I'm not one to really believe in too loud . I'll pull the muffler as well and I really want to replace the first resonator. The reason is that its designed to quiet the car, and I want to switch it with something designed to give off some nice sound instead to go with the flowmaster 80.
