Ok, Timing belt is on. Water pump on. Tensioner pully on. Upper and lower Rad hoses installed. New coolant burped. Intake spacer on.
Ok. Don't read any further if you are under 18.
OK, I started with the timing belt. First, found out my coolant drain plug. Don't work. Fuck me. Ok, just pull the hose. So, go up top and remove all the bracktes and such and get to the rad. Cannot loosen the bottom fitting for the trans.Fuck me. So, I had to leave the rad in. So, I get to the timing belt. Try to work the belt around the pully like it was said it could be done. Nope. Not going to do it. Yes, I know I can force it through. However, you are not supposed to kink the new belt at all when handling it. So, Had to dick with the bolt the get it loose. Basically because I could not get the impact in there the rad was in the way. A hammer and a wrench. Ok, its off. Most everything else goes as planned. I take my time and clean everything and make it look nice. Start it up. Runs good. Ok. intake spacer time.
Alright. I had already ordered the bolts. However they had not arrived yet. SO, I begin the hunt for the bolts. Ended up with some rod. So, I start taking it apart. Here comes the fuck Me part. I take off the upper. The molding hole on the passenger side stayed on the car. It was just sitting there on the valve cover. Cuz, I turn the thing over and saw a hole and said. You guessed it. Fuck Me. Ok, So I look on the engine and there lay the plug. So, I spray off the upper a bit, and clean the hole and plug. Super glued the bitch back in and then used a C-clamp to hold it on. I them used RTV and did the outside edge. I also did the other plug around the outside just incase that thing wanted to come off to. So, I clean mating surfaces like I should. smeared my rtv thinly on the both mating surfaces. and let set up. Put in the new gaskets and cleaned the butterfly up. Not to bad considering its got 100k on it. Start putting it together. Did my cutting and nibbling on the brackets. Now, I was good up until I hit those fucking EGR tubes. I have not seen clips like that before, then add in that I didn't pull them up before I put on the upper. So, off come the upper and pulled them up. I tell you what. Those had to the worse part about the whole thing. Oh my God.I wanted a smoke after that. But, I was good and didn't bum one.
When I was done.I fired her up and left the shop. I am sore and my knees are killing me. Straining trying to get those EGR clips did it. I didn't even feel like going to drive. I just came home and took a shower. I did stomp on it a bit. I have to tighten up a belt. Hits second and chirps. Roads are to icy to do anything more. Safely.
When all is said and done. I am happy its done. I will swap out those rods for the bolts when they get here. Oh, the condition of the timing belt was not cracked. But stretched for sure. I swear the engine sounds deeper now.
So, to end. Shadowvox6 did a hell of a job on the spacers.
I feel better just knowing I have the timing belt done. All is right with the world.
Next up for the offering will be a trans fluid change. Rear brakes and rotors.
Hey Shadow,if you read this. What torque did you put the bolts at. By the book it says 19 NM. I could not even approach that. The rod seemed like it was stripping. So they are snug. Hope fully the bolts will be better.
